Since we're having more kids, how do we care for them?
By Petula Dvorak / The Washington Post
With jubilant throngs dancing in the streets last week, waving signs declaring themselves pro-life as the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the agenda is surely going to turn to children, right? Right?
Because right now? Being a kid or raising a kid in America isnt easy.
Were finally going to mandate paid parental leave and put an end to our shameful position as one of only wealthy countries that doesnt do so.

Surely people proselytizing about the sanctity of life will turn their attention to protecting children beyond the womb who need safe, permanent housing.

Sad to say you know they won't.

(36,421 posts)Better hope you have money or a really good support system in place cuz otherwise, life is going to get a lot more difficult when you suddenly are forced to have a child you didn't plan on or want. I have been in a state of rage since last week. Even knowing this was coming, it's such a blow. I came of age during the Roe v Wade era.

(10,298 posts)they are left to whatever healthcare and resources their un-willing mother can scrape up. None of the states banning abortion offer meaningful or lasting support to the women they're condemning to motherhood. I don't mention 'fathers' because in many instances they are not in the picture. Nope, the "pro-life" throng don't really care.

(13,461 posts)pro life do not care. Fire/police stations better watch out. They will be flooded with unwanted infants. Sounds terrible, but true. I know my state doesnt really support women and the children that are wanted.
