"....
Newsom now is going on the air against DeSantis in Florida -- with what he says is not the first ad of the 2024, or even the 2028, presidential race -- with the goal of trying to get Democrats to reclaim a sense of collective identity that could enable them to beat Trumpism in the long term.
--snip--
"It's Independence Day -- so let's talk about what's going on in America," Newsom says in the ad, standing in the California sun, tieless, as "America the Beautiful" fingerpicks in the background. "Freedom is under attack in your state."
Those last words flash across the screen in red, followed by a photo of DeSantis shaking hands with former President Donald Trump, and then another of the Florida governor as Newsom ticks through Florida laws to ban books and restrict voting, speech and access to abortion.
"I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight -- or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom: Freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate, and the freedom to love," Newsom says as the images proceed from an aerial shot of the Santa Monica Pier to a rainbow flag waving in the hands of two women with arms around each other. "Don't let them take your freedom.""

(745 posts)We need more of this. We need to make sure libertarian swing voters don't vote R because Rs are really hard on the offensive on their theocratic personal-life controlling socially conservative views. There may not be that many swing libertarian voters out there but in some states, the state level vote is only 1 or 2% apart.

Why California Politics Is Always 15 Years Ahead
The Remarkably Prescient 15 Year Rule Means Trump & the National Republicans are on the Verge of a Spectacular Collapse

What do we mean by California is the future when applied to politics? Modern California politics has an uncanny knack of prefiguring what happens in the rest of America in about a 15-year timeline. In other words, what happened in California 15 years ago should be studied closely to see how it will play out in America today. And whats happening now in California will roll out over America in the next 15 years.
California experiences the future earlier than other parts of the country. Californians invent many new technologies, adopt them early and adapt new systems around them relatively quickly. They absorb waves of immigrants at the highest numbers in the country and accommodate them into their society quicker. The state is a magnet for young people, entrepreneurs, and people who want to change the world. Much of the population is unusually open to trying new things in the economy, society, and in politics.
Prescient?
Lots more at the link. It's true.

(9,422 posts)and Gavin picked up the vibrations. Like our star 1/6 witness, may he open the floodgates.
He had a recent recall scare showing him lagging in the beginning due to apparent complacency, but the jets fired up. Lesson learned. GOTV. And I think it shows here. Great! I haven't heard peep from DNC.
Well, they've been handed multiple Pearl Harbors, nuclear bomb drops and 9/11 hits. Go Gavin. Seems I was asking for some dynamic leadership.
Good!

(80,693 posts)Maybe Gavins next job could be head of the DNC. The leader we have now is yet another in a continuing series of unimpressive gotta be NICE disappointments.
ENOUGH with the nice guy crap. This is WAR. And nice guys are little more than cannon fodder.

(9,422 posts)I speculated that DNC was waiting for the 1/6 commission, the Roe fallout ... Putin to croak, who knows what?
Meanwhile, the gamut of issues is left to MSM. Everything is left to MSM.
Gavin and Beto and and others are standing up and kicking ass.

Ultimately, this is a campaign year, where you make bold points designed to motivate the team and to win voters at the proverbial edge.
This ass-dragging is like the safety commission waiting out months of lab tests instead of issuing a warning "This toy contains contact poisons and explodes at random times".
Brings to mind ----
The Buddha tells a parable of a man who is shot by a poisoned arrow, but before the injured man will allow a doctor to remove the arrow, he insists on knowing the name of the archer, where the archer was from, what was the caste of the archer's family, where the arrow was made, what type of wood was used to form the arrow, etc. Such a man, the Buddha said, would die before learning the answers to his questions.
Yes, let's take some more time to come up with a campaign that will win a Pulitzer prize. (NOT)
You're shot with a poison arrow. Pull it, Sir. (borrowing from a Joseph Pulitzer quote)

(9,422 posts)I don't mention the progressives, because that ignites dynamite here. And they get no press except when the media sense a brouhaha in the making, ESPECIALLY an intra-party squabble to amplify.
Also to Acting President for four years Pelosi. I'd add 20 feet to Mt. Rushmore just to put her image in proper perspective.
That said, I really don't know. The thugs have their orders. Dems are free to speak. Maybe THEY are waiting for a consistent and cogent message, so they don't look isolated and bouncing from issue to issue. And ain't that a sorry state?
A consistent message works everywhere and all the time, and adjusts as needed. DAMMIT KIRK. I'm a physics grad, not a staff writer!!
Sports analogies work, and it's like there are 20 different playbooks at the same game. Rick Barry famously said "Come On, People ". And everyone can be their own person, pulling together as a team.
Wow! Can I patent that?

(31 posts)This is the first sign of life Ive seen from leadership in the Democratic Party in years. Actual paid-for messaging that punches down at the opposition and celebrates progressive values. And it is being broadcast behind enemy lines. I still feel hopeless, but keep doing this, and I might start to feel theres a reason to fight.

(1,962 posts)One party (the only remaining party) stands for life, human rights, decency, safety, respect. They are the ones working to protect existing rights and codify new ones so that everyone can have fairness and democracy.
The other "party" (now Christofascist domestic terrorist organization) stands for tyranny, oppression, bigotry, hatred, stripping of human rights, and death.
So do you stand for democracy, human rights and life? Or do you stand for tyranny, bigotry and death?
