Democrats don't need 'messaging,' just more candidates who act like John Fetterman
Its an old saw that Democrats are chronically in disarray. Always that word. Its like hearty with soup. If you think disarray, youre supposed to think Democrats. Even at times like this, when the party is plenty well-arrayed.
A slightly newer saw is that Democrats are bad at messaging.

To buy a catchphrase from Don Draper and hammer away at it might have worked in 2008 or 2012. But it shouldnt be any congressional candidates strategy in jaded 2022.
Which is why its been so refreshing to see John Fetterman, the Democratic candidate for Senate in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, continue to reject Hollywood makeovers and Madison Avenue branding.

He has an amazing campaign team that is quick to respond to EVERY shameless attack (well, and the shameful ones too!) and has a 'grass-roots' core and following that is devoted to his campaign and ideals/visions/dreams.
Yes - we DO need more Democrats like him - hopefully his success will show others how to get it done!

(17,693 posts)Its not easy to get complicated and nuanced contextualized information boiled down into something that can be expressed across platforms by multiple individuals in order to break through through the destructive wall of disinformation and ignorance.
If the stakes werent so high, if we had more state legislatures on our side, if we had more time, maybe not but that is not this moment.

(9,994 posts)He campaigns like a candidate should (as does Beto) and is trolling Oz like a champ. I wonder if he will wear shorts in the Senate? Dress code only says jacket and tie....

Reminds me of a story a WWII Conscientious Objector told of his days in alternative service. It was hot that summer and the guys were outside working sans shirts. Military brass made an inspection and insisted that they follow the regulations and wear their shirts. One wise guy stayed up all night to read the regs, and the next morning all the guys went to work wearing their shirts, but no pants! Since the regs stated nothing about wearing pants, the brass relented on the shirts IF they agreed to wear their pants.
