SC lawmaker chokes up after teen nearly loses uterus due to anti-abortion law he voted for
https://www.rawstory.com/south-carolina-abortion-ban/A South Carolina lawmaker became emotional on Tuesday after explaining that an anti-abortion law that he voted for could have resulted in the death of a young woman.
Republican state Rep. Neal Collins told South Carolina's House Judiciary Committee that he would not be voting on a ban that only has exceptions for saving the life of the mother. The bill provides no provisions for victims of rape or incest.
Collins revealed that he had sleepless nights after learning that doctors refused to extract the fetus from a 19-year-old woman whose water broke at 15 weeks of pregnancy.
Doctors told Collins there was a "greater than 50% chance that she's going to lose her uterus."
He said there was also a 10% chance that the woman could die of sepsis.

(16,348 posts)It's too bad they can't bother to fully inform themselves before rushing to ram through these draconian laws, though. Like, you know, bring in medical professionals to educate them about the full ramifications of what they're proposing to do. (I know, what a concept, right?)
Sorry if I sound a bit jaded. All the forced birth horror stories I've been reading since the Dobbs decision are taking a toll on me, and this week has been a bad one. First, there was the Louisiana woman being forced to carry a headless fetus* to term unless she can get to another state in time to have an abortion. Then there was the teenager in Florida who was told by a panel of judges that she's not "mature" enough to make a decision to have an abortion (but somehow she IS mature enough to be a mother, wtaf??).
At the moment, I don't have a lot of sympathy left to spare for the self pity of a forced birth moran who has been confronted with the reality of what he voted for. To put it bluntly, he can kiss my ass. All my sympathy is reserved for the pregnant people who are being forced to suffer.
*The "headless" fetus is not literally missing its whole head, "just" part of its skull, which means there's nothing to keep its brain where it belongs. Unfortunately, my curiosity got the better of me the other day,and I succumbed to the temptation to look at some rather horrific ultrasounds of fetuses with this condition (acrania).

The question we were all asking before they voted this way was, how many women have to die before anti-abortionists finally realize what they've done? What they're guilty of?
