Sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face, reading this stuff...
https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2022/10/sometimes-its-hard-to-keep-straight-face.htmlThis is the essence of the relationship between extremist right wing Trumpie politics and the Evangelical right. A major Evangelical denomination is dealing with a major sexual abuse scandal among its clergy. One of its former pastors, and former president of the denomination, is named and identified in an investigation as being one of the perpetrators of the abuse. He admits to the "impropriety" but says it was "consensual." Now he's advertising as the leader of some kind of conference, to which people will pay money to attend.
It's this whole attitude that has infected both the religious right and far right politics, and is part of what makes it what it is, a backward, misogynist, racist and fascist male-dominated authoritarian oligarchy of the rich.
There are some things we can do to mute the influence and minimize the damage to the country that these people now pose. These are my recommendations based on my reading, so they come from experience, not from someone with a sociology degree, who probably wouldn't help much anyway:
*Defeat as many far right and Republican candidates as is possible during every election cycle.
*Take their threats of violence seriously and encourage government and law enforcement to handle this the same way they handled January 6th. Not in terms of letting them over-run the Capitol, but meet them with force, arrest and then prosecute the perpetrators, organizers and leaders of the event ( A little clarification here)
*Get familiar with all of the talking points and the whole scope of white Christian nationalism. Know who its leaders are and what any local group might say.
*Fight the intrusion of this ideology in your church, if you have one. If it has already overwhelmed the pulpit and ministry, make a public exit.
*Did I say make a plan and put it into action so that you will go show up at the polls and vote straight Democrat?

(16,936 posts)Excuse me, but the 'government and law enforcement' did NOT handle the January 6th Insurrection correctly! NO back-up enforcement officers or troops were immediately available or dispatched as the crowds and agitation swelled, allowing so many injuries to the Capital police and damage to our nation's capital!
Of course we now know that IQ45 had a major part in allowing all of that to happen and hopefully justice will eventually come to those involved. BUT, such an event should never be handled like that last one was!

(16,936 posts)I agree with your pointing out the follow-up of prosecution, but - OUR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS (yeah, good and bad) deserved better protection during the event - and IT DID NOT HAPPEN!
Why?
Was it IQ45 and his Winger Troops, led by Flynn & Flynn, as well as the other incompetents that had been put into positions of power by him, that kept obviously necessary security forces/troops AWAY from the Capital Building?
I was SICK watching the swarms of INSURRECTIONISTS later walking down the Capital steps as if they had just attended a rock concert - and NO LAW ENFORCEMENT stopping each and every one of them for breaking the law!
Yes, it would have been a HUGE undertaking - but it was a HUGE problem - the first INSURRECTION at OUR CAPITAL in our nation's history.
It was NOT handled properly - and somebody 'on top' made sure it would happen that way........

(3,870 posts)of something like this, the federal government would not have to rely on a governor who might be politically hostile to call out the national guard.
What happened on January 6th is on Trump. And I am trying to be patient, and wait out the prosecution's need to make sure they have an ironclad case to send him to prison for the rest of his life, but every day he is out there campaigning, I cringe.
