The Texas Group Waging a National Crusade Against Climate Action
The Texas Public Policy Foundation is shaping laws, running influence campaigns and taking legal action in a bid to promote fossil fuels.

When a lawsuit was filed to block the nations first major offshore wind farm off the Massachusetts coast, it appeared to be a straightforward clash between those who earn their living from the sea and others who would install turbines and underwater cables that could interfere with the harvesting of squid, fluke and other fish.
The fishing companies challenging federal permits for the Vineyard Wind project were from the Bay State as well as Rhode Island and New York, and a video made by the opponents featured a bearded fisherman with a distinct New England accent.
But the financial muscle behind the fight originated thousands of miles from the Atlantic Ocean, in dusty oil country. The group bankrolling the lawsuit filed last year was the Texas Public Policy Foundation, an Austin-based nonprofit organization backed by oil and gas companies and Republican donors.
With influence campaigns, legal action and model legislation, the group is promoting fossil fuels and trying to stall the American economys transition toward renewable energy. It is upfront about its opposition to Vineyard Wind and other renewable energy projects, making no apologies for its advocacy work.

Climate deniers should be made to stay right where they are located now.

(547 posts)between this and the tobacco's industry's campaign to block awareness of the hazards of smoking starting with the Plaza Hotel meeting in Dec. 1953. Same steady income stream paying for the same misinformation and intensive lobbying campaign. The only thing is that this makes the tobacco lobby's efforts look puny.

(5,088 posts)Are willing to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to keep their lies going as opposed to spending tens of millions of dollars to fix the issue? All they have to do is adjust their business but why do that when you can afford to lie like a rug?
We really need to remove the current trend of paying out for transgressions but not having to admit their lies and deceit. Like, yesterday. That should be the first order of any settlement... make them admit that they lied and misled the public for profit. Of course, this is not considered a bad thing in business, so making them do this will not aversely affect their company as much as they fear. Which is way worse in my opinion.
