'Duct Tape and Band-Aids': Inside Herschel Walker's Campaign Collapse

Herschel Walker cruised to an easy primary victory with Donald Trump's endorsement. The general election was very different.

It was no secret that Herschel Walker had baggage.

Before he even announced his candidacy, Walker’s still-unofficial campaign hired outside consultants to compile a report on Walker’s potential problems. The report weighed in at over 500 pages.

According to two people familiar with the tome of opposition research, which was first reported by NBC News, it didn’t include allegations of secret children, or Walker paying for multiple abortions, or even his obviously false claim to have graduated in the top one percent of his class at the University of Georgia, which the campaign was later forced to scrub from his official website bio.

But it did give those first staffers a clue that they were in for a battle with a less-than-forthcoming candidate—a candidate who had zero campaign experience, harbored improbable political fantasies, and was easily distracted.

Just look at election night.

As the votes rolled in last month, Walker was fixated on the results from one precinct: Johnson County, home to his native town of Wrightsville.

What I find difficult to deal with is the fact that he did not lose by much. That's an indication Martin68 Dec 2022 #4

and what with all of the problems the campaign staff was having with their candidate, it makes it even more frustrating to think that 48% of the voters there in Georgia still VOTED for the guy!

MY GAWD, people! Don't you even care about what you want your country to be doing for you? It really SHOULD be something more than to "OWN THE LIBS!!!!"

sad (even though I had nothing but earned derision for Herschel through it all). That he or any black man could in this age be so exploited--allow themselves to be so exploited--by those who give not a fig about them is just so horrible especially when that involves doing and saying all manner of lies and things that hurt other black people. Still, African Americans in GA saw what was happening and obviously refused to buy into it, thankfully. But those images of Walker flanked by Cruz and Lindsey--both seeking to speak FOR HIM, INSTEAD of HIM were just the pictures of pathetic and nauseating. So, yeah, I am saddened. Saddened that this still occurs today.

of how difficult it is, and in many cases impossible, to persuade hard core Trumpists that voting for their candidate is not only an absurd choice, it is also very damaging to the country. Consider that, in addition to the fact that Walker was a proven philanderer, abortion supporter, and liar - Warnock is a real Christian minister.
