Floridians, be ready to lock and load -- or duck

When the Florida Legislature, whose motto is: “Good Governance Is Highly Overrated,” begins its annual palm greasing in March one can rest assured it will immediately take up a measure dear to the heart of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

What might that be? Better schools? Higher pay for teachers. True insurance reform that doesn’t impoverish homeowners? Criminal justice reform? Environmental preservation?

Oh puleeze, don’t be so silly! All that stuff actually might require work. It might require doing something that benefits the citizenry. It might — dare we even whisper it — require acting like real adults. Oh the heresy of it all.

Instead, the denizens of Tallahassee will pass a bill essentially doing away with any remote semblance of reasonable gun control in this state by allowing gun owners to carry firearms in public without the irritation of having to obtain a permit. And thus, the hills will be alive with the sound of AR-15s to settle disputes over parking spaces, or loud music, or because a spouse put too much tabasco in the meat loaf. What used to the resolved with a few well-chosen F-bombs could now result in body bags.

learning, or innocent people getting blown to bits by automatic weapons, and on and on, then nothing much will change. Revolt on our part, in one form or another, is the only thing that can quell the insanity that high powered gun enthusiasts share. As long as the majority of sane Americans sit at home fat, dumb and happy, things will only get worse, not better. Until common sense takes root among a normal thinking populace, and significant pressure falls upon decision makers, we may just as well buy stock in coffin companies. If enough people, en masse, threaten their cushy Congressional representatives with removal from office, maybe something will get done.

You couldn't PAY me to live in that shit pit of a state. We won't even vacation there. You have to put your money where
your mouth is and Florida ain't it! I have no sympathy for the Floridians who voted this guy, (and just revoted him) into office.
Yeah, you don't have to pay state income tax. Big fucking deal. You get to live under a would be fascist. Good luck with that.

Not our circus; not our clowns. If they're fine with things exactly the way they are, and that serious reform is not needed, then Floridians are going to have to be fine with the rest of us mocking their sucktastic state.

I am a lifelong resident of Texas, and as you probably well know, we have a "wild west" mentality here that is now dominating our state politics. And with the US having more civilian gun ownership per capita than anywhere else in the world, I am not optimistic that there is an answer. But just like you, I wish somebody out there would jump into the conversation with some positive and constructive input. Just sayin...

That's all I ask..A conversation on how to get results. It's easy to trash a person, state or country. Coming up with a fix is harder so most stay away.
Like a pizza cutter.. All edge and no point..

I had a supervisor who said
"don't come to me bitching about a problem with out your idea how to fix it."

Our school shootings havent increased, but road rage, robberies, stalking, accidental/non life-threatening gunshot wounds and siblings killing each other, have. Threatening medical workers is popular too. Death by cop is W-A-Y up because they can say "I saw a gun." They know that works well because I would guess 75-80% actually DO have a gun.
I visited 4 Tulsa businesses yesterday - dispensary, tattoo shop, used record store and the gas station. 1 woman, 3 men, all 30-somthing, with a gun on their hip. Gas station guy keeps a sawed-off shotgun behind the counter too. My MIL was threatened with a gun outside her office during the covid lockdown. I had a gun pulled on me for refusing to open a door after closing hours in the fabirc store where I worked.
After the deadly hospital attack here last year I would say at least 50% of those I know who work at that hosital, even under threat of being fired or loosing their nursing licence if anyone finds out, are carrying every day. Ankle holsters are VERY popular. Glad Im retired from nursing and dont need to consider that option.
This weekend is worse than most. 4 times a year, OK hosts Americas Largest Gun Show. Hotels and bars are full of drunk MAGAts, planning the next chapter of 1-6, while the majority of sales actually take place outside the gun show, without even names being exchanged, only cash.

5. Here's an interest defence argument for someone accused of assault or murder with a gun.

Since the state of Florida doesn't care who carries a gun in public, they're essentially accepting the fact that guns will be used in public. After all, it's not like they are fashion accessories, they're weapons meant to wound or kill people.
So, by this action, the state is prepared to accept that a publicly carried weapon will be used as intended.
This expectation means the state endorses gun violence, and sees no problem with it.
They are building a case for lawful use of a gun as it is intended to be used...to intimidate, wound, or kill.
It would therefore not be a crime to do so.

I know, this is all BS, but it sure looks that way from my point of view.

We used to have an entertainment resort called Six Gun Territory. I guess the whole state will now become that resort.

And it's FL, which is becoming more fascist friendly by the minute. So dems will leave if they can, and MAGAT loons will continue to flock here, because this is where WOKE goes to die, as well as anyone else who pisses you off.
