In Autopsy Study, Over 90% of Former NFL Players Showed Signs of Brain Disease CTE
From: U.S. News & World report
"Researchers at the Boston University CTE Center recently announced that they have now diagnosed CTE in the brains of 345 of 376 (91.7%) of NFL players studied.
The NFL player data doesn't necessarily mean that 9 of 10 current and former NFL players have CTE. Exactly how many do is unknown since the condition can only be definitively diagnosed by brain autopsy after death.
Every 2.6 years of football at any level doubles your risk for CTE, and the longer you play and the higher level that you play, the greater your risk, said Dr. Ann McKee, director of the Boston University (BU) CTE Center and chief of neuropathology at VA Boston Healthcare System. She also directs the UNITE brain bank, the world's largest tissue repository focused on CTE and traumatic brain injury.
The new research builds on findings from a 2017 study that showed CTE in 99% of the brains of NFL players, 91% of college football players, and 21% of high school football players in the UNITE brain bank."

(73,928 posts)no surprise, they are finding evidence of tbis in a lot of these kids.
yeah, football is bad. but you know whats worse? domestic violence. child abuse.
i hope we are getting to the point where we can figure out how to fing TREAT this shit. but im convinced this is behind so much that is bad in the world.
i have a pet piece of legislation that i float to my pol friends now and then- add questions about head injuries/concussions to the school health forms. unlike most of the stuff on that form, that would actually be useful info.

(73,928 posts)hey u 2- i was commenting on this article online this a.m. and was reminded of my pet legislation- add a question about head injury/concussion on school health forms. i know there has been work at co juvie to get brain images for some of the kids there. would love to know what they are finding. unlike most of the info on that form, this could be very, very useful info. for 1 thing- it could point to abuse in the home. but other questions about headaches, etc, could lead to at least treating some common symptoms. my youngest and i both were plagued w hallucinations that were seizures from head injuries. neither of us were dxd w neuro issues, even tho my baby had a pedo neurologist treating her for sleep issues and headaches. and there are so many kinds of seizures that dont look like seizures. like staring off into space. we rly need to get our arms around mental health in kids, starting w realizing how much of kids issues are about brain health, not some disembodied mind. look at this article, and change the word football to bonks on the head.
1 is my rep, the great kelly cassidy, the other is new majority leader robyn gable, who i helped on her 1st campaign, and who i consider a friend. she and i had this convo before.
ill let yall know if there is any feedback.
