Florida Is Banning The Biggest Cult Movie Of All Time
The state of Florida has introduced a bill aimed at prohibiting anyone under the age of 18 from attending drag performances. As reported by the New Republic, lawmakers in the state confirmed that the restrictions would make it illegal for high school students to attend live performances of popular musicals like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hair.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show, according to the proposed Florida legislation, classifies as an "adult live performance." The umbrella term used in the bill applies to "any show, exhibition or other presentation in front of a live audience," that "depicts or simulates nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement, or specific sexual activities," including "lewd conduct, or the lewd exposure of prosthetic or imitation genitals or breasts."
The bill is far-reaching and, despite its attempt at clarification, vague. What the state of Florida deems offensive is not entirely clear, as the term is inherently subjective, but, according to lawmakers, The Rocky Horror Picture Show fits the bill. The punishments associated with a violation of the bill, however, are quite clear.

(8,361 posts)That is the score of demagoguery....just like Trump when he began his 2016 campaign claiming Mexicans are coming to rape you.
All a distraction, all sickening too. Focus on this non issue while we do next to nothing for working people. Nothing about gun violence, leading cause of death for our children. That is today's GOP on steroids.
My fear is they are focusing so much shame and hatred they're going to make life dangerous for many trans people.

They have a daily fight amongst themselves to stay relevant and get on the air. Their outrage has turned and is consuming them. DeSantis and Abbott are a case in point but on other issues - they were going back and forth on immigrants now Abbott might pardon a racist who killed a BLM protestor. The ball is back in DeSantiss court.

And wait until they realize some of those Bible movies have sexual excitement too.

(9,268 posts). . . many if not most movies and even television shows have at least some nudity or sexual activity, there really won't be much left for Florida to watch. I think Desatan needs the clockwork orange treatment, really, maybe with the soundtrack of the Rocky Horror Picture Show instead of Ludwig.

I know it hurts right now, watching and living with their hate and stupidity, but they can't survive this level of political insanity. Their god really does work in mysterious ways.

(56,205 posts)These Republicans enacting these laws that even Oliver Cromwell would gag at had the same hormones as the rest of us, and they acted on them the same as the rest of us. They were no more chaste than a herd of rabbits. But some emotional inadequacy has brought them full circle. They will now never admit to having had normal desires like the rest of us (much less to having acted upon them like the rest of us), and hide behind their crosses and their bibles. They are now in full control-freak mode. Dictate, repress, shame and punish--for the very things their god gave all of us, and that they, themselves, did when they were young.
Show me a group of ten thousand fanatical Republican "Christians" who claim they never had sex before marriage, and I'll show you a group containing nine thousand nine hundred liars.

(37,946 posts)one being that their god lets them learn the hard way. Which in their case is never. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
They be like: what's a lesson? Which is why life for them is the same lesson over and over.
We're decent and empathic; but seriously, we don't have to hurt anymore, because we've lived with their hate and stupidity for at least six years, long enough to learn to just move on.

(358 posts)Like the GOP and conservatives have done using Critical Race Theory (which they can't even define) they create solutions to problems which don't exist. This is done to obscure the fact that they oppose real solutions. They oppose any kind of gun control. They oppose raising the minimum wage. They oppose Government health care (i.e. Medicare for all) even though every member of Congress has free health care for life. And in 2021 not a single Republican voted for the $1400 stimulus payout sent to most Americans. In some states Republicans are even opposed to free lunch programs for the poor. It has long been known that the GOP only cares about the super rich and corporations and they prove it all the time.

(18,286 posts)This is stupidly, ludicrously, epically broad and vague.
You'd think the movie theater chains would throw a fit about this. They'll never be able to fill up those multiplexes with the tiny number of films that have absolutely nothing on this list. And teenagers go to more movies than anybody....don't they? Or has that changed?
Do Florida lawmakers expect filmmakers to start making "Florida safe" versions of their movies, with everything pertaining to sex (depicted or simlated) edited out?
Somebody needs to send a giant shipment of marbles to Tallahassee asap, to replace the ones those politicians have lost!

(271 posts)I'm sure the pearl clutchers are really, really offended by Dr Frank N. Furter, who would cause them blindness upon sight. Brad and Janet, especially Janet would offend. Then, for the first time in probably 40 years (?) I remembered her song lyrics: "touch me, touch me, touch me, touch me. I want to be dirty." Yup the GQP would be completely insulted by a cross dressing "scientist", Janet and their RW worshiper MeatLoaf providing a story line and sang some of the music..... then there's Riff-Raff and now everybody's head is exploding
This is too much for the pearl clutchers and it must be banned! /s
