But he didn't really nail the origin of the word "woke". Some attribute it to blues singer Lead Belly - but African American owned newspapers were using it at the turn of the last century.

I'm 50 - when I was at University its meaning was given by Spike Lee's School Daze.

In the age of Rodney King - it was the BSU's focus on Africa that pissed a lot of us off. They had to shift their 1980's South Africa apartheid and colonialism focus to our own backyard - or lose relevance.

At the root? I feel the Right's use is culture vulture nonsense.
