California Youth Pastor Accused of Revolting Sex Abuse
Bradley Reger was seen chatting up a young girl at a Nevada airport just the night before his arrest last week, authorities said.
A California church deacon allegedly sexually abused numerous boys on religious mission trips under the guise of inspecting their genitals for concerning moleshelping protect the children, he told them, from the ravages of skin cancer.
The abuse dates back to at least 2009, according to a criminal complaint unsealed in Sacramento federal court upon his July 7 arrest and reported first by The Daily Beast.
Bradley Earl Reger, 67, used his position of authority
to groom children and continually grope their naked genitals for his own sexual pleasure, federal prosecutors said in a detention memo after Reger was taken into custody. Local police first received reports in 2003 of abuse by Reger, who never seemed to run out of teenage boys whose genitals he could fondle under the guise of medical exams, according to the memo.

(17,815 posts)That guy looks like a pervert chosen by central casting. Seems like they would've noticed that before they hired him to be the youth minister, and why wasn't he stopped when people first started complaining about him? The same thing happens in other churches. How many times was it before they decided to do something about him?

(960 posts)should really be ended. I'm not sure if a more perfect set-up for pervs could be concocted, almost like that was the real intent by whoever invented it.

(36,925 posts)Pederasty was widely practiced and accepted at the time, particularly when it came to religious instruction. Certainly we cant know if he was diddling his students, including Jesus, but it would be a bit naive to assert he wasnt.

No minister can be alone with any minor, have to have at least one witness.
I know it won't fly because that is regulating religion.

At least two major conservative, Evangelical denominations are currently dealing with crisis-level sexual abuse among their clergy and church staff members, along with the ongoing Catholic problems.
There is actually an "opposition" group which has formed in the Southern Baptist Convention which is attempting to downplay the whole abuse issue. In three of the higher profile cases, involving individuals with a lot of clout and influence, there have been attempts in their in-house media to blame the women involved. In two cases, the men who perpetrated the abuse, one a seminary professor, the other a high profile, influential, big dollar pastor who served two terms as President of the denomination and reaps in huge profits off contractor business that the convention uses for various services, are suing the convention for investigating them and concluding, with plenty of evidence, that they were guilty of abuse. One of them has returned to his preaching and seminar circuit, pronounced "restored" by four of his big dawg pastor friends. They have a mess that is out of control and out of their ability or willingness to handle. And I understand there's an even worse situation among the Presbyterian Church in America, PCA, the conservative Presbyterian denomination.
