Why has Ron DeSantis been such a flop?

Just two months into his fledgling — and floundering — presidential campaign, Ron DeSantis has already been forced to reboot.

Once heralded as the GOP’s likeliest Donald Trump slayer, DeSantis vaulted to a 5-point lead over the former president among potential primary voters after coasting to reelection as Florida's governor last November. The fact that DeSantis triumphed on a night when the rest of the party faltered — Trump’s handpicked MAGA candidates most of all — only burnished his next-big-thing brand.

But sadly for DeSantis, it has been all downhill from there. In April, the polls showed rank-and-file Republicans rallying around Trump after his first indictment of the year (for his alleged role in paying hush money to a porn star). In May, DeSantis’s official campaign launch — an awkward, glitchy Twitter Spaces event with Elon Musk — fell flat. Since then, surveys have consistently shown Trump averaging more than 50% of the primary vote. DeSantis now trails him by more than 30 points.

So did Billy Sunday and Billy Graham

People may be getting tired of the constant lies about teachers being pedophiles and grooming kids to be gay. They also don’t necessarily like all the hatred directed toward trans people, especially kids. And the whole Moms for Liberty act that often sent in strangers to disrupt local school board meetings and turn them into shouting matches didn’t go over well in some communities. Add the book bans, and stupid Ron’s attack on Disney that says he is not business friendly and is costing jobs in Florida, and the question is what he even has to offer voters. Nothing I can see. And Casey DeSantis trying to be Jackie Kennedy (so people will think MoRon is Jack Kennedy?!!!) is a total fail. Neither one of them has any class, and it shows.

that so dominated his stump speeches. No one even knows exactly what "woke" means.

And on top of that, he's a bully and not a likeable personality.

...about how "wonderful" the quality of life is in Florida and how he we impose that on the rest of the country.

Voters see right through that mirage. If he wants to hold up his record in Florida, its FULL of alternative realities, half-truths and deceptions. Any debater or reprorter with two brain cells could go after him on a looooooong laundry list of issues.

They are still in love with and hung up on the idea that their ideal candidate is the governor of the southern state. Ever since Clinton won, I guess. They always fight the last battle which they actually lost anyway

Lived in the Faux news, Right wing twitter bubble.
Someone on MSNBC summed it up nicely. He has never been an outstanding or exceptional politician. He barely beat Andrew Gillum. Trump is right that he had to save him in that race. The Democratic leadership in FL has not been up to par. At this point, I would say that Dems failures helped re-elect him. This is not bashing democrats. It’s OK to acknowledge where mistakes were made. Just like how we have to acknowledge that mistakes were made in NY that helped us lose the house.

So because it appeared that he easily beat a democrat, at the same time that trump picks tanked,OZ et al, folks decided to crown him the new king. That was wishful thinking. From the very beginning, folks familiar with him were saying, Nah, he’s not ready for prime time.

You have to be at least somewhat likable to get people to vote for you.
Regardless of your political beliefs and programs, if people find you obnoxious they won’t vote for you. And DeSantis is one of the phoniest, most repugnant politicians we have seen lately.

Even if he managed to win his Party's nomination - when hell freezes over - DeSantis would never take more than 3 or 4 states in the general election. He's a dud, a non-starter, he has a terrible annoying personality, and he has no ability to think on his feet or to answer the simplest, easiest questions.

All of the anti-Disney, anti-business policies he has pushed in the last year are proof of his utter stupidity. I'm not even talking about the racism, the sexism, the anti-gay bias, or his inability (unwillingness) to see both sides of a political issue.

Florida is stuck with this loser. The country isn't - and we should thank our lucky stars.

I wonder if Desantis is really the flop that the polls show he is or whether that's right wing media spin to puff up the orange headed buffoon.
