Plus the fact that they won’t tell anyone what chemicals they put into that water because it is “proprietary”

It's not everywhere ... but it has happened in enough places to see a pattern of negligence.

The frackers (oil & natural gas companies) will come in and drill the tunnels, use the available water in the process, and then leave their polluted water behind as they leave. Often they don't seal the tunnels properly as they were supposed to, and more groundwater is ruined in the process. As a result some Pennsylvania farms have NO potable water left for human consumption, or for farming.

It's happening elsewhere too, but we in Pennsylvania (and Ohio) are the bellwether for other states. There's shale oil in a lot of areas in the US that was left behind 100+ years ago. Now they have the technology to get that oil. The oil companies are lying when they say they'll leave a clean environment behind when they're done. THEY WON'T!

A new peer-reviewed study from Duke University shows that drinking water in areas within a half-mile of fracking wells can become contaminated with dangerous levels of methane – enough to catch on fire if lit. The report says that the levels of methane in some areas of Pennsylvania and New York are so great that they pose a significant fire and explosion hazard.

with heavy metals, salts that are 7 times the level in the ocean, and, oh, it's radioactive.

...and it's estimated that over 10% comes back out of the ground they then need to dispose of.
