Story by Sarah K. Burris • 13h

Federal Election Commission reports show that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is having a difficult time raising money for his reelection bid for Senate.

Cruz, who spends most of his days working on his podcast, brought in a little over $3 million, noticed senior Daily Beast political reporter Roger Sollenberger. While his challenger Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX), a former Baylor University linebacker, brought in $4.7 million.
.....................

Cruz's cash on hand is $5,756,097, whereas Allred has just under $8 million at $7,919,984.

Campaign money is one of the top ways that party committees judge viability. Cruz enjoys the security of incumbency, but he has always remained unpopular among his colleagues in the Senate, the Texas Tribune reported in 2015 before he ran for U.S. President.

While he should have enormous support from his state, Cruz was just 7 points up from Allred after the Congressman announced in May. That's with a plus or minus margin of error of "2.9% for the analysis of all registered voters and a margin of error of +/-4.8% and +/-5.1% for the analysis of Republican and Democratic primary voters respectively."...................

It's good to hear our candidate has money, he will need it, but cruz does not.

Every voter in texas knows who cruz is. Every voter in texas pretty much knows whether they are going to vote for him, if they vote at all.

Almost nobody knows alred outside of his district. He is going to have to gain name recognition and define himself whle the gop whurlitzer is out there defining him for cruz for free.

Cruz is not going to need anywhere near the amount of money alread does. All he has to do to get on the news is say something mean or cruel, which is normal for him. Allread will have to buy time to get on the air.

Cruz has pacs that are bursting with money if he needs it. Allread doesnt.

Allread may be doing well at fundraising, but he isn't crushing anybody. Lets be realistic here. It is a very uphill effort, and as always in texas, it is a game of turnout, and they are masters at voter suppression.

He is pretty well known in DFW anyway.
I agree that Cruz will be tough to beat. But Allred has a pretty good chance I believe.

He's squeaked by in his re-election bids because in Texas, it's gotten close enough that he has to campaign for turnout, and that means he has to show up, open his mouth and make more enemies every time he does. That's not really an exaggeration.

There's a lot of PAC money available for Texas Democrats, and they are spending a lot on bulking up their voter registration numbers among constituencies that are under-represented. A couple of motivated Democrats on a ticket with the President in 2024 could turn Texas.

Someone should monitor those campaign funds for suspicious activity.
