I'm a climate scientist. If you knew what I know, you'd be terrified too

Opinion by Bill McGuire

Are you frightened by climate change? Do you worry about what sort of world we are bequeathing to our children and grandchildren? In the words of science writer and author of “The Uninhabitable Earth” David Wallace-Wells, “No matter how well informed you are, you are surely not alarmed enough.”

I would put it even more strongly.

If the fracturing of our once stable climate doesn’t terrify you, then you don’t fully understand it. The reality is that, as far as we know, and in the natural course of events, our world has never — in its entire history — heated up as rapidly as it is doing now. Nor have greenhouse gas levels in the atmosphere ever seen such a precipitous hike.

Think about that for a moment. We’re experiencing, in our lifetimes, a heating episode that is probably unique in the last 4.6 billion years.

They do not exaggerate. Quite the opposite - if anything they understate things. And at that they are extremely concerned.

And many will not, and they will live like starving animals.

There does not seem to be enough political will to avoid this.

I can't even watch HGTV anymore. Always a new show about people building their dream homes right on the fucking beach in Florida.

Local and national meteorologists or just weather spokespeople noting that the February temps are 40 above normal in North Dakota and Iowa then saying "so get out there and enjoy some golf!"

The weird dichotomy of ads for ginormous gas guzzling trucks and SUV's and the government's push for EV's at the same time. This wasn't thought out well. Hybrids should have been the next logical step before the jump to EV's which are too expensive and more importantly aren't practical for most Americans because of the lack of charging stations or reliable charging stations.

Every new study coming out says this is coming faster and worse than previously reported. This is not just a problem that your great great grandkids might witness, there will be severe climate chaos with massive American climate migrants on the move by 2030.

... because "climate change" doesn't sound the least bit threatening.

What's coming will be a true disaster that will cause deaths and deprivation to most of the world's populations.
