Netanyahu says Biden 'wrong' after US president criticises approach to Gaza war

Netanyahus failure to secure the release of hostages still held by Hamas militants, whose 7 October attack on southern Israel triggered the war, has led to regular protests in Israel and calls for early elections, including in Tel Aviv again on Saturday night.
The war in Gaza began with Hamass unprecedented attack, which killed about 1,160 people, mostly civilians. Israels retaliatory military campaign has, according to Gazas Hamas-run health ministry, killed at least 31,045 people in Gaza, mostly women and children.

After five months of war, the UN says a quarter of people in Gaza are on the brink of starvation. The local health ministry said on Saturday that 23 people, including several children, had died of dehydration or malnutrition in the previous 10 days.

In a separate development, a US military vessel carrying equipment for the construction of a second temporary pier in Gaza was en route to the Mediterranean, officials in Washington said. It could be weeks before the facility was functional, they added.

(102,511 posts)Keep the pressure on, Pres. Biden. We cannot be drawn into Bebe's abuse toward his OWN people, his intentional thwarting of democracy and the courts in Israel, nor his intention to ignore all Israel-signed international conventions for conducting his war and the adverse repercussions that will result for the next many decades. All because he does not want to face a losing election or the awaiting judicial repercussions. We must not enable his immoral tactics every bit as much as those of Trump.
I don't know if Bennie Gantz (or whoever else is waiting in the wings) will be dramatically different, should an election be held, but at least those other than Netanyahu do not have the same obvious personal and malign motivations for their conduct of this war.
