Is Romney Take A Dive and Throwing the Election?
As a clear picture of Paul Ryan comes into focus so has a question at least in my mind. Is it possible that bright and early last Saturday morning Mitt Romney threw the 2012 presidential election?
That he may have lost his chance when he announced Paul Ryan as his running mate is rapidly becoming conventional wisdom among everyone except those who pushed the hardest for his selection. Pollsters and pundits are looking at Ryans potential impact on the vote of women, minorities, Catholics, and seniors and generally calling it from neutral to extremely negative. Women in particularly are unlikely to be wooed back to the party once it is known that Ryans views on sex, birth control, and womens health are at least as prehistoric as Rick Santorums while seniors are not comfortable with his pronouncements on Medicare.
At the same time, it is hard to see what Ryan brings to the ticket beyond the possibility of winning Wisconsins 10 electoral votes a poor trade for the 29 in Florida he will probably cost it. Anybody-but-Obama already had the far right vote locked up and Ryans radical social conservatism does nothing to boost Romneys appeal to moderate Republicans or independents.
So, did Romney appoint Ryan in order to lose? I know it sounds insane, especially as Mitt Romney, of all the people I have watched run for office, stands out for his willingness to do whatever it might take to get there. But that in a way makes my theory a little bit more credible. Love may have no fury like a woman scorned, but a close second goes to a shameless whore when the check bounces.

(6,205 posts)I think that both he and the Party leadership would have preferred another choice, but were pressured into a Tea Party candidate for financing. They should have picked Rubio, though, he seems like slightly less of a nutso.

(6,539 posts)Just think what the Romney/Ryan ticket might gain if much (or any) of their agenda is adopted. As progressives, we not only don't want the Romney/Ryan plan; instead, we want to move in the exact opposite direction to a world where the workers are treated fairly and the rich take what trickles up.
The working poor can no longer survive under the current economic equation.

(13,262 posts)who have already been completely convinced that Obama is taking away their Medicare and trying to destroy America. I hear this all the time at the grocery store, gas station, etc. The well-targeted propaganda has been going on for three years now. There are businesses all over the place who have had anti-Obama signs in their windows for months and months, constantly changed and refreshed.
And this is suburban eastern PA, not the boonies.
I know I am repeating myself, but the mere fact that something is absurd or patently false does NOT mean that the majority of voters do not believe it.
I sincerely hope that this idea that the Republicans have set themselves up to lose will go away by the end of August. We are in a death-struggle here.
