Returning Trump's White Supremacy To The Dustbin Of History - Where It Belongs

Morning all. I had hoped this break would allow me to step away from the day to day a bit, dive into some books and articles I’ve been intending to read, spend time thinking about where we are now and where we need to go in 2026. I had intended to write less and think and reflect more. But as we’ve discussed in these three recent posts (here, here, here) about Trump and his illicit relationship with Putin, that is not how Trump or authoritarians roll. They want to be in our heads every day, maniacally driving, dictating, our understandings. Which is why to beat Trump we must learn how to unplug from that process, recognize it for what it is - a form of control - and learn how to approach our days from our understandings, not his. Not letting him dictate the day to day news flow, continually overwhelm us, and determine our understandings, is perhaps the most important form of defiance we must practice, for all other acts of defiance flow from it. As we often say here one of our most important jobs is to not let his madness become our own.

So in that vein I’m going to be sharing articles and speeches this week that I’ve returned to to help me make sense of this deeply challenging moment, and start finding a clearer path forward for our pro-democracy movement. The first, below, is from October, 2020. It’s a note I sent to my then NDN community about a magazine article I had just published called ”Build Back Better” or “Reconstruir Mejor.” I would encourage you to find time in the coming days to read the article along with its precursor, “Forward or Backward?” or “¿Avance o retroceso?” that is linked to, below. They contain themes and understandings I will be returning to in the hard fights ahead of us.
