An unhinged Donald Trump feels the backlash from Europe, Greenland, and beyond in Davos
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, sought to flatter Donald Trump in his first term, treating the wannabe dictator to a Bastille Day military parade, which Trump later sought to emulate in Washington, D.C.
Macron is offering a different public message this year, with Trumps high profile bid to annex Greenland. Fracturing the NATO alliance has elicited strong emotions, and troop deployments meant to deter an invasion by the United States.
Trump spoke for more than an hour to the World Economic Forum earlier today after a transatlantic flight to Switzerland, rehashing fantasies about how the 2020 presidential election was fixed, talking endlessly about himself, and memorably referring to Greenland as Iceland. But he then served up what has become known as a TACO meaning, Trump Always Chickens Out.
Trump first backed off from the threat to use military force we already have a base in Greenland and later retreated from his threats to slap tariffs on any country backing Denmarks hegemony on the self-governing, mostly ice-covered landmass. Instead, Trump said a framework for resolving his demands has been agreed to, reportedly after NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte talked to him.

He craves the attention, especially when he's the bad guy.
