The National Weather Service warns of travel conditions to and from the Sierra over the long weekend.

.............The good news is hopeful skiers dont need to worry about the trip up to the slopes. Although ongoing construction projects on Highway 50 and Interstate 80 in Sacramento continue to create a chokepoint, traffic conditions should be typical of a holiday weekend. Though travelers may hope to get in an extra day of skiing on the President's Day holiday, Collins said the area could see up to a foot of snow on Monday.
Id say that the best travel window is Friday through Sunday, Collin said. Once we get to Monday, that's when we'll see the travel impacts with potential whiteout conditions and heavy snow in the Sierra and over the Sierra passes. So conditions will get a bit dicey.
