Trump Voters Are Over It
Its Trump, Montoya told us outside a popular Hispanic grocery store in Casa Grande, Arizona, much of which sits in one of the most evenly divided House districts in the country. Montoya voted for President Trump in 2024, but now, well, frustrated doesnt begin to cover how hes feeling. The president is bragging about the economy, even though everyone Montoya knows is hurting; he promised to stop wars, but started one in Iran. When Trump opens his mouth, three-quarters of what he says is stories, lies, Montoya said. Hes planning to vote in the midterm elections this fall. But he may not choose a Republican.
You cant flip a funnel cake in this part of Arizona without spattering someone who sounds just like Montoyaanxious, and a little regretful about how they voted two Novembers ago. These days, a shocking number of the presidents supporters have turned against him. Some of Trumps fanboys in the libertarian-leaning manosphere have spent the past year baffled by his actions on the Epstein files, immigration, and now Iran. And in the past week, religious conservatives have been criticizing their once-unassailable leader after he posted a photo on social media of himself as Jesus and attacked the pope, calling the first American pontiff WEAK on Crime. Some Republican operatives in battleground states told us that theyd rather Trump not campaign too hard for their candidate; others have seen their small-dollar donations plummet.
Midterm elections are typically rough for an incumbent presidents party. But this year threatens to be brutal. Trumps approval is lower right now than it was at this point ahead of the 2018 midterm elections, when Democrats won back the House in a historic blue wave. Almost every new poll is a red flag for Republicans: Independents, young voters, and Latinosgroups that were crucial to Trumps win in 2024arent in the bag anymore. Even non-college-educated white Americans, once the presidents strongest group, have turned on him, according to a CNN polling average. Democratic-leaning voters are 17 points more likely than GOP-aligned voters to say theyre extremely motivated to vote in November.

(67,211 posts)Until they pledge never to vote Republican again, they don't regret shit. They're just tired of justifying their decade-plus worship of a child rapist.
If the election were held again tomorrow, better than 99% of them would still vote for him, even knowing what they know now.
Fuck every last one of them.
Wiz Imp
(10,157 posts)That number may be understated, but it is nowhere near 99%.

(67,211 posts)I'd be interested to hear what people actually think, as contrasted with how they responded in that poll.
Trump kkkultists are worthless fuckheads, sure, but even those worthless fuckheads are dimly aware that they might be called upon to justify their three votes for the child rapist, if they admit that they still support him. It doesn't seem like a stretch to say that 15% in that small poll could have answered with that in mind.
Put them in a voting booth, and let's see what those 15% do.
Fuck 'em. Even this semi-mythical 15% for getting us into this shituation.
Wiz Imp
(10,157 posts)Besides, your "logic" is ridiculous. If people don't want to justify why they voted for Trump, then why would they admit to voting for him in the first place.
By your logic, these people have no problem admitting to voting for Trump, but "justifying" that vote is just too much for them to bear. Sure.
Orrex
(67,211 posts)And, yes, every Trump voter is a kkkultist. They took a good look at the rapist, felon, and lifelong criminal who shits on the military and who mocks the disabled, and they say "Yes, that's the leader we need." Three times.
Fuck them. And fuck any attempt to sanitize their fuckheaded kkkult bullshit.

(10,157 posts)So sure of yourself and so wrong. I personally know numerous people who voted for Trump who are not MAGA cultists as evidenced by the fact that they hate the guy now. They freely admit they made a huge mistake. There's a hell of a lot more of those people than you will allow yourself to admit. For some reason, it apparently makes you feel better to believe that no Trump voters ever have or ever will change their mind. So fine, you go on believing that. (The Blue Tsunami coming in November will prove you wrong, though I'm sure even then you won't admit it.)

Id bet a months salary that these ham hocks will still vote R in the next election. People who have never been accustomed to thinking arent suddenly going to start now.

(10,315 posts)with reality. Cognitive dissonance can only go so far to maintain the illusions that kept the Trump movement going. The high is ending, the bills are coming due, and the train-wreck is spilling not just over the rails but also all over the right-of-way and well onto either side.
I find myself wondering if I have any compassion for the people who deluded themselves into voting for Trump in 2024 or told themselves that staying home and not voting Democratic wouldnt have any negative consequences. Right now I dont: they brought this on themselves as well as on the rest of us. I think they need to go through the painful consequences. The burned hand teaches best.

He craves the attention more than the grift and power. His best hope is that everyone takes a Trump vacation through the summer. Actual vacation, World Cup and Olympics (arent his peoples thing at all), baseball, USA 250, anything that takes attention off himself.

(196,808 posts)destruction of the East Wing. I think that hit everyone with some level of shock. He destroyed 1/3 of the White House. Even if they dont follow the news ( anywhere like we do ) and dont see the private donations as bribes, the idea of a ballroom A BALLROOM isnt just not Americana farmer purple mountains majesty stuff. I really think thats sticking to people.

(10,157 posts)would never vote for him again if they still support him?
LuvLoogie
(8,851 posts)They're fucking up relationships. But they would still vote for him because he mirrors their bigotries and grievances. The national security, economy, no wars thong was just cover for their true motivations. As long as he shits on the other, their cool. They just don't like having to defend him in public.
Does this guy say he'll vote for a Democrat? No. Because he has the same world view. He's just looking for a new quarterback to drive the same bigotries to policy. He has no problem with the advertised targets of trump's policies. Just what it costs for gas. He still has shitty motives where his fellow citizens are concerned. That is true of EVERY trump voter. No matter how many flags and bibles they wave.
Wiz Imp
(10,157 posts)would vote for him a 7th? Sorry, but that is complete nonsense. And sorry, there are legitimately hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of Trump voters who absolutely would never vote for him again. I personally know a bunch.

The ones you know personally are still cool with the cuts to healthcare. They were good with DOGE. They out there protesting the kidnappings of immigrants the incarcerations?
Voting for trump in 2024 was not a vote for good governance. It was a malicious act.

(37,922 posts)No thanks. Repentant Trump voters: don't vote at all, you've caused enough damage. Whoever you vote for, I know that's going to be the worst person.

(350 posts)These people you know can form a group called "I'm a dumb piece of shit who saw a felon that brought our country to its knees in 2020 and still willingly voted for him in 2024 and here are our ideas and thoughts on OTHER things" so we would already know what things to support based on what they don't like.
