Food Is Not A Bargaining Chip

Funding SNAP and kids’ lunch programs isn’t a partisan issue, it’s a moral one.

Feeding children is not a political decision, it’s a moral one.

No elected official is deserving of the office if they refuse funding for school lunch programs, food assistance programs, or if they equate providing lunch to kids “welfare.”

Excuses mount about why it isn’t needed, why we can’t afford it, and why it’s not our responsibility – but we’re spending billions of dollars by the day in Iran, hundreds of millions on a White House ballroom, and many more actually unnecessary things.

They’re tired excuses by Republicans who are more than willing to ignore the needs of our communities. But here are the facts: nine out of ten counties that struggle with food insecurity are rural.
