After working as a professor in the University of Tokyos Faculty of Engineering, Suzuki took up the post of chairman of the now-defunct Nuclear Safety Commission in April 2006 and became JAEA president in August 2010.
He drew criticism last December by saying: An accident can take place at any time. Mistakes in terms of formalities can happen. He made the remarks after receiving instructions from the NRA urging the JAEA to investigate the cause of the Monju inspection flaws.
