Two Weeks After Calling for Obama Impeachment, Michele Bachmann Quits Due to Ethics Scandal

Two Weeks After Calling for Obama Impeachment, Michele Bachmann Quits Due to Ethics Scandal

You wouldn’t know it by listening to the mainstream media, but it isn’t a coincidence that Michele Bachmann quit Congress after the FBI started investigating her.

The mainstream media is laughably believing Michele Bachmann’s claim that the ethics scandal has nothing to do with why she is quitting Congress.

-snip- (video)

Bachmann said, “And rest assured, this decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff. It was clearly understood that compliance with all rules and regulations was an absolute necessity for my presidential campaign. And I have no reason to believe that that was not the case.”

It might be clearly understood by Bachmann, but not by the FBI, the Congressional Ethics Office, the special prosecutor in Iowa, the FEC, and all the other agencies that are investigating her 2012 presidential campaign. Two weeks ago, it was reported that the FBI had joined the investigation into Michele Bachmann’s presidential campaign, but the media wants to pretend like this never happened. In fact, most mainstream media outlets are quoting Bachman’s denial and taking it at face value.

The media has taken the same excuse that they crafted for Sarah Palin, that she was an undisciplined conservative star who flamed out, and glued it on to Michele Bachmann. The problem is that in Bachmann’s case it doesn’t fit. It isn’t a surprise that Rep. Bachmann would deny everything surrounding the ethics investigations in her video. That is exactly what she is supposed to do. She is not going to admit that she is quitting because of allegations of misuse of funds, theft, and money laundering, among other crimes.

Just like when the U.S. Senators announce that they are not running for re-election it is considered 'retiring'.

Example here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_elections,_2014#Race_summary

Even though she will serve till the end of her term, she's still a quitter

And she is 'quitting' her election campaign that had already begun.

when any of your politicians decide to not to re-run.

The fact is that the headline is poor journalism.

and you prefer if all journalists are told that they should not use quit because you confuse it with resignation.

At any rate, now that you've cleared up your confusion, the point is that she's crazy and she's busted and now she is going to quit the commercials and everything else she was already running for 2014 because the FBI is up her business.

ETA: I love word policing from someone who used "re-run".

(see PP's wiki reference) but Bachmann was running ads already for 2014. Suddenly she is quitting after the FBI started an investigation into her campaign finance malfeasance.

Maybe it takes a rocket scientist to put those two things together, but I don't think so.

To my knowledge, she has written no legislation that went anywhere. She may have co-sponsored a bill that actually made it out of committee, but did not pass. Effectively, her presence matters less than the presence of the handles on the restroom doors.

Too bad the GOP is so relieved she's quitting. She was a great fundraiser for Dems and a good example of Republican CRAZY!

I see the plot unfolding like this:

1) She announces that she's not running in 2014, provides
typical excuses (better things ahead, time with family, blah blah)
but does not resign outright because this gives the appearance
of guilt.

2) The investigation/trial proceeds, slowly revealing over time
that the alleged scummy behavior is true. This buys her some
time.

3) She plays the media in typical GOP fashion, claiming
she is a victim of partisan politics, tosses in a few conspiracy
theories, and fights her case on TV rather than in court.

4) She preemptively resigns from the House (which she knew
would be the inevitable outcome) while nailing herself to a cross.

She will use the excuse that she has been rendered ineffective as
a Congresswoman because those horrible democrats and the liberal
media have tarnished her reputation and slandered her holy
character -- BEFORE any final verdict is ever reached, of course --
all the while oblivious to the sweet irony of poetic justice that she
has been undone by her own criminal behavior, after years of endless
accusations of criminal misdeeds (all delusional) by Pres. Obama.

5) The GOP will add her to their Pantheon of false martyrs, make
false equivalencies about Dems, and project blame on others.

6) She will show up in some other capacity -- either on Fux News
or in a Tea Party costume -- to continue her pander-to-the-nutjob
brand of politics.

She is like a case of herpes: She'll never go away.
