An ecological Gramm-Rudman

Last edited Sun Aug 25, 2013, 10:42 AM - Edit history (1)

That's what the planet will do if we continue the way we've been doing business. The older people here (present!) can explain to younger folk what Gramm-Rudman was. Spread the term around. Let people know that Nature takes harsh corrective measures when the environment is threatened, and that we are now the Numero Uno threat.

The planet isn't going anywhere. But WE are, if we don't smarten up!

The planet may be here after we go, but that doesn't mean the biosphere will be OK then. It is conceivable that we could end up wiping out most complex life on this planet to the extent it would take hundreds of millions of years to recover.

So thinking about a physical reaction in terms of "correction" is not doing the issue justice. Ecocide is the clinical term for it. "Crash" is a better, more accessible term for laypeople that conveys a sense of chaotic physical reaction.
