The Silent Military Coup That Took Over Washington
This time it's Syria, last time it was Iraq. Obama chose to accept the entire Pentagon of the Bush era: its wars and war crimes
John Kerry's farce and Barack Obama's pirouettes are temporary. Russia's peace deal over chemical weapons will, in time, be treated with the contempt that all militarists reserve for diplomacy. With al-Qaida now among its allies, and US-armed coupmasters secure in Cairo, the US intends to crush the last independent states in the Middle East: Syria first, then Iran. "This operation [in Syria]," said the former French foreign minister Roland Dumas in June, "goes way back. It was prepared, pre-conceived and planned."

I enjoy reading John Pilger.
He has many excellent documentaries on YouTube and numerous documentary channels.

(5,610 posts)all we get to choose from is corporate candidates.
Unless we can get a proven Progressive to come off the hill and prove hat he/she knows the system is broken and is
willing to lead us lowly peons on a march against the privileged few who have prospered while we have all suffered,
we don't have anyone to vote for.
It has become them against us, they are winning. Unless, through action, one of them shows us (not from the hill but among the masses) that they realize how we have suffered for their class and want to make America a peoples nation at the expense of the
profiteers then we have no one.
Maybe (I'm speaking as an FDR Democrat) we can groom an outside Progressive for a grass roots campaign.
However it goes, it must happen quickly.

(8,159 posts)The amount of money required to run for president limits most.
Gore won but the shenanigans done to prevent his presidency are still available today.

(13,735 posts)We were reminded over and over that if we didn't sacrifice our treasure to the military we'd be speaking Russian the next day.
Some lines remain constant (__________) is a ruthless dictator killing and enslaving his own people.
We have to fight them over there or fight them here.
As Poppy Bush once said: You've got to have a bogeyman; can't make money without a bogeyman.
For our entire lives the United States has been at war, either on foreign soil or against some perceived enemy or ism of the day.
We have a propaganda machine that would have Gobbels green with envy and makes Pravda TAAS and Izvestia look like cheap imitations.

(1,241 posts)can control the many. Is this freedom??? Wait. Just sit there and wait for someone to fix it. Buy the latest IPOD and wait. After all this is insane and someone in power will realize that and fix it?? Americans are FROGS IN THE FRYING PAN and too damned brain washed to do anything about it. I know I have been lied to for 60 fucking years now, from doctors, to politicians, to cops to anyone in power over you will fucking look you right in the eye and lie. Just accept what you are told is the American way, don't make waves, WAIT for 4 years and you can change it with your vote. BULLSHIT. If we don't have a campaign finance reform, NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE. Obama said he would fix that?? Solidarity is when the entire country doesn't buy gas for one whole day in America. When the millions of semis park it for one whole day, then watch the powers that be realize that they are the few and it could get a lot worse for THEM. Have I wasted my entire life sitting by watching America being stolen by rich and powerful thieves and waiting for another 4 years so I can vote for the same bullshit.

(126,151 posts)The general rule, of course, is that one gets good at what one practices, and Pilger, by practicing rhetorical name-calling, has developed a certain skill at it: "John Kerry's farce and Barack Obama's pirouettes," say
But what is actually needed, at any moment for organizing purposes, is a careful study of current conditions and an analysis of the facts that the study produces: the economic role of military production in the United States, the companies involved, their advertising and lobbying and public relations activities, and the campaign support that the "defense" companies provide. Only by actually understanding such conditions can we understand the political dynamics and plan our way forward
And that, unfortunately, is what Pilger does not provide

(6,960 posts)What a powerful read and dishearteningly true. Some excellent comments as well about our own coup 2000 and Democratic complicity!
I knew BHO would be more of the same when he selected Biden for VP. Then came Geithner, Rahm and the deal was sealed. No change, stillborn hope.
