Alzheimer's bittersweet tangle of love, loss and timing
My dad was still alive when my stepmother, Carla, called to tell me she was thinking of going on a date with another man. "Do you think it would be all right?" she asked. And then she burst into tears.http://www.latimes.com/home/laaffairs/la-hm-affairs-20131005,0,4717375.story

(255 posts)my beloved wife of 46 years has been diagnosed with dementia, most likely caused by Alzheimer's. We are 66 years old. Three adult children. Terribly difficult condition. Some very hard issues need to be faced. Hard decisions must be made. And a cure MUST be found. More research is needed quickly. 😢

(2,921 posts)the last 7 years. She was 66 as well when she showed symptoms which coincided with her contracting Lyme disease along with my sister passing from cancer. I fortunately had friends that had gone through a lot of this and prepared me for what to expect. Please seek out folks that have performed long-term care taking and have been through it, and hopefully you'll receive a lot of good advice and empathy. Don't forget to take care of yourself.

(255 posts)Good advice .... We have been going thru the progressions for 4 years now. starting the long term care alternatives process. can me exhausting ... you know! I'm still working, but not for long. a shame ... we had such great plans for this time in our life and now she is going away. she's here, but the person she was is gone. They really NEED more research in this area ... there are a lot of baby boomers and this disease impacts a good number of the elderly. Thanks again.
