America is still a Fast Food Nation.

According to a 2013 Gallup poll, nearly 30 percent of Americans report eating at fast food establishments on a weekly basis. We know this gut-busting grub saturated in calories, fat and sodium is, in part, contributing to our nation's obesity epidemic. We also know the "food" we ingest sometimes does not seemingly qualify as food at all (also see: this 14-year-old McDonald's hamburger).

And yet, despite the eye-widening facts, we still want those French fries. What witchcraft do big companies like Mickey D's, Wendy's, and others employ that have us dreaming of fast food when hunger hits -- and even when it doesn't? Unsurprisingly, there are many tactics these big corps practice to get us in their doors and put their burgers in our bellies.

1. Fast food companies take advantage of our desire for convenience.


2. Fast food companies use "aroma marketing" to tickle your senses and make their product virtually irresistible.

The other four are at the link. I think this is extremely well written, researched, and informative. I like the word "witchcraft" in the third paragraph. These companies will do almost anything to get us.

1. I used to be one of those 30%.

In fact, during the decade I was a coder/DBA, I probably ate fast food somewhere on the order of 9 - 12 times a week, week in and week out. It was loss of work that severely downshifted my eating out habit, more than anything else. I didn't really find out just how unhealthy that stuff is until later.

3. How horrible that they don't make their products look disgusting.

 

1. Fast food companies offer fast service.
Unlike all other sales companies, who strive to deliver the slowest service possible.
2. Fast food companies make their food smell good.
Which is totally unreasonable; they should make it smell like a garbage dump.
3. Fast food advertise with positive words.
Totally unreasonable; they should use words like "stale" and "day-old."
4. Fast food companies advertise with eye catching colors.
Well, that's just obscene; they should use nothing but shades of gray so that no one will notice their signs.
5. Fast food companies have big signs on their stores.
Shame on them; signs are not supposed to be noticable.
6. Fast food companies market to kids.
Okay, this one actually does rather suck. That is really a pretty sleazy practice.

5. It is not witchcraft.

It is brain-washing. Those companies hire people with very fancy college degrees whose only job it to make their 'product' (I would not call it food) as addictive as possible.

Witchcraft works with and through Nature. There is NOTHING natural about fast 'food'.
