And yes, Ann would have been far to brittle to ever engage like that...

(2,529 posts)Our FLOTUS will go down in history as the coolest ever, especially considering her three Republican predecessors.

(2,560 posts)Just kidding, of course.
My respect for her was already ridiculously high. She just ratched it up a few more levels.
An amazing woman.

(2,671 posts)but maybe not. They're both pretty prim and proper. I love how at home in their own bodies the Obamas are. They are lovely role models for how to relax and enjoy the moment.

Thank goodness we have a First Lady we can love, admire, and respect. AND relate to as a caring, compassionate human being. She's flesh 'n' blood and lots of heart, as opposed to either one of those other two - mere cardboard cutouts, both of them.

(6,151 posts)As if I didn't have enough against Queen Ann - she went and ruined the good name of dressage. It's a truly demanding art and the supreme exhibition of horse and rider as one. Now I can never watch it again (used to ride) w/o wanting to retch because of the recent association.
However, that does remind me to thank David Letterman for helping stop the GOP. His rants about the horse, the dog, and the GOP Chicken too scared to ever appear on his show must've done some real damage. At least it encouraged the faithful. During the campaign I bought my dog a big rubber chicken to carry around the yard and chew on while it squawked. I wrote "Chicken Mitt" on its belly and also hung one from the big wood sign I so lovingly crafted for the front yard. Thank God for fences - it drove my tea drinking neighbors madder than ever.
I don't know how I could've borne up if they'd won.

(81,267 posts)Glad you're here! It was reassuring to get the voice of someone as prominent and mainstream as David Letterman - bringing that story about poor Seamus back out into the public awareness. mitt would certainly have preferred that the story be lost in obscurity. Dave the dog-lover wasn't having any of that! I once imagined a bumper sticker that would read "My dog won't let me vote for romney."
To me it wasn't just the surface incident in and of itself. For me it was - this is the regard he shows to other living things, purportedly even those he says are like family members. It just bothered me at a very deep level - that the dog was outside strapped to the roof, and the luggage and supplies - the STUFF - the inanimate non-living THINGS - was safely stowed inside the car. WTF?????? That just doesn't make sense to me, and the cavalier nature of his reaction to it and response to it when questioned, told me all I needed to know about his inner motivations and gut instincts, what kind of man he is, and thus what kind of president he might be. By thy default position art thou known.
If Letterman had only addressed Mutt's serious character flaws a few times, it would've carried some weight. But he beat the drums loud and long - almost nonstop - so I really give him a lot of credit. He was almost a modern Paul Revere, galloping through the country warning "The Republicans are coming! The Republicans are coming!"
More than a few credible health professionals along the way stated their view that Mutt suffers from some degree of sociopathy. If you ever read a psychiatrist's popular book from a few decades ago called The Sociopath Next Door, you'll see Mutt on every page. Of course you must remember that I consider conservatism itself sociopathic to the core, but it doesn't take a PhD to see that.
BTW, I like your bumper sticker idea!
