(6,699 posts)WHY do you keep posting this seditious clown's nonsense on these threads? Can we just do our best to let this complete paranoid-dunce fade into obscurity? I get so frustrated when we have anne coultier, rush limpballs, and this ass-hat pasted on the threads. THEY ARE CLOWNS! They are nothing more than agitators who will say any nonsense, inflammatory, made-up horse shit to keep relevant. And DU is doing them a favor by making them relevant.

(3,300 posts)Then you won't have to keep pissing on other peoples threads.

(12,882 posts)does not make these loonies go away. I'd even argue that that tactic affords them more power. Rightfully ridiculing their ridiculum whittles away at whatever following they might have.
And yes - if their mentioned in the thread title, what says YOU have to look???

I look at the parallel rise of Islamic and Christian fundamentalism in the 1970s. In both the US and the broader Islamic world, religious fundamentalists begin their upswing starting in the early 1970s. In the Islamic world, one event that really set things off was the storming of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca in 1979 by a young gentleman claiming to be the Mahdi. This event, though ultimately unsuccessful, had the regrettable after-effect of the Saudis giving in to the fundamentalists once the dust settled. In conjunction with the Iranian Revolution, it essentially set the Islamic world on fire, and we're still dealing with the repercussions.
In the US, the rise of the 'Moral Majority' beginning in the early 1970s and culminating in the election of Ronald Reagan, when Christian fundamentalist allied themselves to the GOP, has led to the Christian fundies having a very solid lock on the political process - as far as the right is concerned - and substantial influence on US policy ever since, both domestic and foreign.
The repercussions of that event is one we're still dealing with, albeit electorally; the Tea Party.
And those, such as Mr. Beck, who openly advocate sedition.

(5,279 posts)Homo sapien sapien came into being approximately 70,000 years ago, when there was an "explosion" of mental capabilities. Humans began our current relationship with G*D 5773 years ago with the "birth" of Judaism. Christians showed up approximately 2013 years ago. They split into two major competing factions in April of 1520 with the reformation. The Protestant church split further into many factions over the years. In the 1600's (1604-1660) some English came over to north america, less than half sought a place to practice a non-mainstream religion (Puritanism). Later a secular group comprised mainly of freemasons sought to establish an enlightenment based country free of royal and religious domination. The country based on enlightenment philosophy existed from 1776 until after World War 2, operating in a mostly secular way. During the Cold War, a focus on religion (initiated by then Pres. D D Eisenhower) was started to unite us from the "G*d-less commies", epitomized by the inclusion of the words "under G*d" into the pledge of allegiance. We have continued to this day, with an evolving society, one of changing values and opportunities. This is historical fact.
Persons who rewrite this in their minds are mistaken. Persons who have been taught something else have been lied to. People who believe that the Lord will destroy us because we have not been "following the path" are hallucinating.

(5,279 posts)I should have put in a disclaimer to the effect of "a simplified version of History centered around the United States, encompassing 70,000 years in a few sentences"; aimed at picking on a schmuck.
