2. Background checks WILL help stop criminals from getting guns because it will stop some gun sales.

That means a few less guns floating around because not as many people will be able to buy them. Buying and/or selling guns is not a right guaranteed by the Constitution. Neither is owning one, or a dozen or more.
With all the mayhem caused by guns, where is the "Well Organized", let alone the Militia, in the current climate of gun ownership?
We have preschoolers killing people. What will it take to get our gun fetish under control?

6. If you can honestly say...

...that nobody has ever been refused a gun due to background checks, then you must say that sometimes it works. At least as many times as people were refused. The FBI states that 1.8 million times people were denied due to background checks between 1994 and 2008. They list 153k just for 2010. And the idea that background checks aren't effective because criminals will not follow the law is totally nonsensical... Should there be no laws or regulations because some people don't follow them? Let's just scrap those old ineffective laws against murder, rape, torture, strong-arm robbery, breaking and entering, consumer fraud, pedophilia, genocide, etc...

On the other hand, we can all wish she converts to the Amish way of life (no Youtube or buttons.)

Why not do more to keep guns out of the hands of the "Crazies"? Fighting fire with fire is a losing proposition when applied to firearms. Stockpiling pillows against the fear of crazy pillowfighters is fairly safe, and makes as much sense.

I would argue that her main objection is the fear that a background check would impede her ability to purchase. Were I a retailer, I'm not sure I would sell her chewing gum, much less a firearm.

Background check on handguns and autos, some semis.

Not for shotguns and regular bolt action/lever hunting rifles. You want a tool? No background. You want a weapon designed to kill humans? background check.

I live in Canada and had to take a course and apply for a license. People act like this is such a big deal, but it really wasn't. I get the feeling some of these people acted the same way when the government instituted the drivers license and testing. It's to make sure you can operate the vehicle safely and can be revokes if you demonstrate that you cannot be trusted with it. Same shit.
