1. Once again - misplaced priorities in schools

Let's check in with the school district:

Any science teachers spending their off time pitching the idea that the earth is 6000 years old ???
Any history teachers spending their off time pitching the idea that Iraq was responsible for 9/11?
Any sociology teachers spending their off time pitching the idea that children raised in same sex households are somehow at risk for some untold future psychological issues ?

If so, were they fired ?

Or do we reserve that punishment for women who go out in their off time and do something perfectly legal that has no adverse intellectual impact on their classroom and is not (as are the examples above) provably wrong.

I guess The Supremes have created a world where having "the stupid" in classrooms teaching our kids is preferred over having "the pretty" (or "the ambitious&quot . Maybe she should reframe her pictures as exercising her right to free speech - then maybe she can get back to the teacher's lounge and listen to the others talk about man riding dionsaurs, Saddam training pilots, or that kid acting up in class because his "two dads" are, well...two dads.

By all accounts, she was a good teacher - there are many many many good (and great) teachers. I include both my mom and dad in that group. But seriously - do we have enough of them that we can throw them away over trivial chit like this.

2. I agree wholeheartedly. There is a slow but steady slide in our education system,

a concentration on unimportant matters, and a focus on doing damage to the public school system in order to privatize it.

9. At my Son's H.S.

A "free thinking Progressive" band teacher was given the option to either resign or be fired. He resigned. He did not fit into the fake clique of his peers. Some students (this is TN did not like him as well, he did a great job but was not a good old boy). His wife (who always volunteers her time, is semi-Gothic), the students who were interested in learning to play better music really appreciated him though) my Son who plays in the band and takes an advanced guitar class, learns a lot from this teacher. Admittedly, when he was hired 3 years ago, my Son (like his peers) thought he was effeminate. He learned that did not matter. Too bad the administrators did not look deeper. I wrote them a "protest letter", it didn't help...

You know, we first met, I was like wow, I'm hangin' with a Playboy model, but now I don't even think of it. I still call her my girlfriend, but we are actually engaged (as of December of last year). I still haven't gotten into the habit of calling her my fiance.
