Related: About this forumMOX NEWS ALERT: DAMAGE CONTROL talking point over IRS Commissioner Shulman already distributed
Once again, the GOP noise machine shot first and aimed later. After the contrived scandal over Benghazi fizzled so badly this week, Republicans were desperate to PIVOT to a new scandal, and kicked the noise machine into high gear over the contrived scandal over the IRS targeting TEA PARTY groups.Only problem was, the Commissioner of the IRS during that period was a BUSH appointee. Douglas Shulman was appointed by George Bush in March 2008, and served until November 9th 2012.
...oops (to quote Governor Rick)
It's a little difficult to claim the IRS was following Obama's orders to target conservative groups when the guy running the IRS is a George Bush appointee.
So....they've quickly crafted and distributed the DAMAGE CONTROL talking point that Shulman "IS A DEMOCRAT." (Watch Lou Dobbs just toss that one out there in the clip below, hoping nobody will notice.) I have no idea if it's true or not, but seriously, THIS TALKING POINT NEEDS TO BE MOCKED, BIGTIME.
"Yeah, yeah, I KNOW the IRS Commissioner was appointed by George Bush,...but IN HIS MIND he was always a puppet of Obama's. Yeah, that's it. That's the ticket."
Pathetic.

(5,954 posts)Kelly 'cabbage heads' the talking point that 'the IRS is not tied to him yet.' Dobbs counters by saying "the President appoints the IRS Commissioner" then quickly disclaims that the IRS Commissioner was appointed by Bush, and then rapidly polishes the turd with the caveat that "HE IS A DEMOCRAT...."
I can find no evidence that he's a Democrat, but as I said above, it's a ridiculous argument even if it were true.

(203 posts)more disgusting than this "news" organization. The blatant hatred expelled from the mouths of these blowhards is seriously hard to take. The witch hunt by Issa is disgusting but is politics as crappy as it is...but there should be a law against calling a republican propaganda machine a "news" organization.
Zen Democrat
(5,901 posts)He gave $500 to the Democrats in 2004. This was before Bush appointed him in 2008 as Commissioner of the IRS.
So now will foxnews attack dumbya for hiring a democrat in 08

(10,270 posts)I guess I was wrong. LOL at Dobbs saying the President's deameanor is "angry"...
fucker STILL can't wrap his head around the fact that the Black guy got elected mostly becasue the previous White guy was such a demonstrable fuck-up.
The President has taken negotiating positions that really do piss me off, and there have been a lot of decisions/appointments that I disagree with (Geitner, Holder, etc.). But even for all that, he just keeps swimming, no matter how much cement the cretins keep trying to pour over his feet. He gets credit for that.
As a policy-maker, I wish he were more Progressive economically. As a President, I wish he were the real, and nasty Partisan that the GOP (think they) WANT him to be (at least then he would be actually GUILTY of it). But as a POLITICIAN, he's a Master of his Craft, and I think we are better off for it, and I think a lot of Social good will come from it. If nothing else, the repeal of DADT, and the very likley trash-can-ing of DOMA under this President's watch, will have large-scale and lasting impact on how we do policy in America, much to the GOP's chagrin. Yes, he HAD the power to utterly destroy the arguments of the Republican base after his first election. That he chooses to let them do this work thmeselves is his call, not mine.
I'm proud of the Democratic President that I voted for. I will be prouder still of this Democratic Party if I can vote for Liz Warren at some point in the future. Why?, you ask?
