Related: About this forumHarlem: 26 cops arrest one guy, slam him to ground, then stop legal filming
This was May 13 at 3:30pm in the 135th St station of the B/C. Note the one arresting officer repeatedly telling the other to "relax." The young man being arrested puts his leg up just so they don't slam his face into the wall. When I turned my camera to catch the officers streaming into the station, two of them came behind me and one officer (Mancebo?) pushed me out of the station and would not let me turn around. Afterwards, I counted twelve police cars around the station.

(13,088 posts)There is no shortage of police in the U.S.
Budget cuts have not diminished their numbers.
Bloated police budgets are on the same scale as bloated military budgets.
It appears there is an over abundance of poorly trained police in the U.S.
Is their goal one police officer per citizen ????

(841 posts)These Police did things correctly here..
Notice the suspect is not willing to cooperate...
No Sticks no beating... When backup arrives they all gang tackle the suspect and secured him with no incident.. No extra punches or blows of any kind..
This was no Rodney King what so ever..
Fact is anyone who is near may end up as part of a Investigation.
That is what Police have as a tool to take you Video recording device..
I did not make the rules... It just is the way it is today...

(24,244 posts)A BART cop in Oalkand just pulled out his gun and shot a guy who was on the ground in his back and killed him because he couldn't see anyone filming him. These cops were absolutely aware that several people had cameras pointed at them and acted accordingly.
It's frightening to think of what happened for all the decades before everyone had a video camera in their hands.

(73,630 posts)Yeah, sounds about right.
Look, cops know full well when they start beating the shit out of someone, that person won't simply lay there and allow them to beat the living shit out of them while they're conscious
It's called a survival instinct.
They resist and the cops get their blood up like a pack of hungry wolves.
I'll bet you Kroners to Krispy Kremes that this whole thing started because of a botched Stop and Frisk. Young black male, probably minding his own business, upset because a couple of asshole coppers are harassing him for no apparent reason. Of course it turned bad
Why else would they want people with cameras being whisked away?
I'm sure that all the officer friendlies out there give you some nice warm fuzzies at night, but if you're a person of color in places like NYC, it's not the same thing.

(9,753 posts)The suspect was already secured by the first two officers when the other two ran in and tackled him needlessly.
Happily the 20 or so cops who then flooded the scene didn't decide to beat the suspect into hamburger.
This is a glaring example of bad practices, bad training, bad dispatching, and a bad attitude.
The entire cop-industrial complex in the U.S. needs to be disassembled and rebuilt. And 99 out of 100 SWAT teams disbanded.
