(57 posts)There is a CBS clip of Joe Biden in it
Cronus Protagonist
(15,574 posts)Don't see any hypocrisy in it. He's against the collection of info like that when he was a Senator. If there is hypocrisy, it's not in the clip. So what's Biden's response to the clip? That's what's missing. And therefore your OP is mis-titled.

(57 posts)I guess what makes it hypocritical is that his administration is doing the same thing he was worried about when Bush was doing it and I assume he doing it hoping that we trust that his administration will not misuse the data collected.

(15,574 posts)However, I do not know what Biden's position on the matter is right now. And hypocrisy is not changing positions, it's holding one position while lying about it to others. No one can be called to task to hold the same positions now as they did years ago. If that were the case, there would be no point in education and no value in experience.
Someone who, for example, five years ago thought that waterboarding isn't torture, might, after some investigation, change their mind and position on the matter. That's not hypocrisy, it's education at work. If you're looking for a source of hypocrisy in this matter, look at the source, FOX News, and consider its hypocrisy, which is staring you right in the face and is in fact a good example of such.
Biden, not so much.
And I totally disagree with TIA both back then and now, but Biden has not been shown to be a hypocrite here. I am pleased to note that he was against TIA then, and have hope that he might still hold that position today. In fact, I do also think that Obama might also be amenable to restrictions and regulation of the powers in this matter.
And I do think it should be noted that the FBI and the DHS and all the other three letter agencies are NOT "this administration". Changing the titular head doesn't change the entire organization.

Until the public FORCES them to act,....and even then it's like they have to ask permission of whoever is actually in charge and usually the answer is "no" and it happens anyway.

(32,723 posts)The government got into bed with the corporations after WWII.
The main myth the government still can't wrap it's brain around is that capitalism does NOT provide a better life for it's citizens but the apparatus is in place to keep key people and organizations in policy making positions and the presidency of the United States is the PR department.

The sad part about all this is that when the next republican administration start to push the limit of spying on US citizens, the democrats who supported it under Obama will have zero credibility to complain. Only Grayson and Sander will be the only ones left

(6,785 posts)Most of them were happy to help the Bush admin. Voting for wars, taking impeachment off the table, retroactive immunity, refusing to prosecute: I don't think they cared that much to start with.
