Kept bashing the ACA, but then when challenged became very flustered. It was fun to see. Also talks about why the GoP wants people to buy insurance across state lines.

(7,887 posts)But I thought that was why the BIG insurance companies like United Health Care pulled out of California market... because the requirement of complying with minimum level of insurance regulation cramped their style.
MAYBE we lost the part about buying across state lines and kept the consumer protection piece?
http://www.urban.org/publications/412195.html
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PACA) includes provisions that allow the purchasing of health insurance across state lines. However, these provisions are structured somewhat differently than earlier proposals. The differences are intended to provide states with more consumer protections from having those regulations undermined by cross state sales of insurance. The most important differences between the PPACA compact provisions and earlier interstate sales provisions are that the PPACA requires all states to comply with a minimum level of insurance regulation, and cross state sales would not be permitted in a state unless that state affirmatively joined a compact with one or more other states.

(30,058 posts)Diabetes Ted should have told them with Obamacare their child with diabetes would nit be canceled because of a pre-existing condition. Cruz provided a really good reason to have Obamacare.

(50,557 posts)He's saying the person's insurance company cancelled "because of Obamacare." Which means the insurance company really wanted to sell them a far more expensive policy and needed to deal with the grandfathering issue.
The strange thing about this "sell across state lines" is twofoldd:
One is we are talking about nationwide companies. It's not like there are fifty little Hartfords.
Two, the GOP's favorite phrase is State Sovereignty, but consider: every state of the fifty has an insurance commission that regulates that trade. Would not allowing insurance companies to move to the state with either the loosest regulation or highest rates essentially wipe out the sovereignty of the several states?
Now flip to an alternate reality: they talk about auto insurance when discussing health insurance. You know, you can go to any car insurance company in America and buy that. You can...but let's say you live in Minnesota and fly to Los Angeles to buy a car. When you insure the thing, the California insurance agency will sell you Minnesota-compliant insurance. If the law allowing insurance sales across state lines doesn't kill the state insurance commissions, your insurance policy will still have the required coverages from your state insurance commission.

(18,219 posts)Loved Cruz tripping all over himself when asked a great question. It was so great to see Chris push for answers. In fact, I think that I am going to try to find that whole interview. Hard hitting, but not impolite like it would have been if it was Rush or Beck interviewing Harry Reid.

(18,219 posts)Mario Cuomo definitely was a no-nonsense mayor. And that interview was no-nonsense.
I was disappointed that I could not find the full interview. It was posted on CNN with only the parts that were already shown.

How about this... We need to stop right here, right now and discuss the lie you just threw out, I will not continue this debate until we go back to your previous statement and take it point by point.. Thats what Im saying..

(8,219 posts)Ted Cruz is a slimy, creepy individual. Makes my skin crawl.
But the most important point was something I already knew, but I never hear the Democrats (um..the people who are supposedly working for US) say, and that's that the reason why Cruz and his ilk want insurance to be sold across state lines is that the insurance companies would all incorporate in Delaware or some such place where there are essentially no regulations.
Why aren't Democrats saying this over and over and over? Why isn't Pres. Obama saying this? It could be a teachable moment for the American people.
I think I've answered my own question.

(5,106 posts)That Chris Cuomo is such a bright, articulate and attractive individual made the contrast all the more obvious, even if in a "petty," surface way. It was like Kennedy versus Nixon---except I'd welcome Nixon with a huge hug if he were occupying the same space that Cruz is currently.
