because in the 50's, Strategic Air Command had a heavy presence there. Titan I Missile Complex 1A, just north of the city, etc.

Just providing context, as the report wasn't clear, during the co-location bit at the beginning, which was the chicken, and which was the egg. SAC/Colorado came first.

Says a lot about the USA doesn't it.

There are a lot of covert activities of the US military around the country. This town, Colorado Springs, is one likely place for some of that activity. Also, other overt government stuff located there.
