The one question that many of us who have seen the shutdown bridge story as a strange unfolding of events have been asking ourselves - why attack the mayor when so many other Democrats weren't attacked. Why that particular one? Why that particular target? Why, more importantly, on THAT PARTICULAR DAY?
Rachel Maddow opens a can of evidence to suggest that not only was it likely Christie had his hand in the bridge attack on the town of Fort Lee, but it was for an entirely different reason that is currently being talked about. That is has absolutely NOTHING to do with the mayor, but more to do with the Democratic leader of the Senate who's district is, in fact, Fort Lee.
For the story in print, click here -- the video above should give you an idea of what Rachel thinks may be the real reason to give the case a second look as to how high the decision to shut the bridge down goes.
And it sounds like Christie's fingerprints are all over it.

(31,937 posts)In the NJ Forum. I think she nailed it. It was a topic of discussion at my local Democratic meet up on Tuesday . . . Not as it relates to this - but in general for the State.
I think it's right under our nose - and it makes sense. This battle has been going on for close to four years now.
the resolve of our Democrats in Trenton is nothing short of Amazing.
I take back what I said about Weinberg and Wiesnewski just rolling over on this yesterday. They aren't. They just need the resolve they've shown on high court appointees. Christie may very well get to keep his seat - but it's going to be hard as a rock going forward.

(839 posts)She laid out the timeline and showed him having a tantrum late afternoon on August 12, then, at the crack of dawn on the 13th, the quite elaborate conspiracy was set into motion.
Refreshing to have a true journalist and the entire show is a must see if you haven't already.

(13,297 posts)Staff can technically say 'can you imagine what would happen if the George Washington Bridge was shut down for a few days?' and have a response from Christie like 'whooaa boy, that would be a good start'... and technically it is all conjecture, no one is giving him the plan, yet he is letting his staff know EXACTLY what he would enjoy see happening. Let's face it, that sort of thing happens ALL THE TIME and it would be foolish do think for one second that he was not consulted, whether by conjecture, or with a 'scenario' or with some kind of offer of information that would give the staff a silent 'go ahead' from the man they worked for.
It defies reason to think he had absolutely no involvement in it, even if by a knowing smile, a tacit approval and a thumbs up to those who put themselves in the planning stages of pulling this off.

(21,478 posts)I think she nailed it - it wasn't the mayor's lack of an endorsement, it was the Senate majority leader Christie was after. The timing just fits.
