"Rennie Gibbs's daughter, Samiya, was a month premature when she simultaneously entered the world and left it, never taking a breath. To experts who later examined the medical record, the stillborn infant's most likely cause of death was also the most obvious: the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck.
But within days of Samiya's delivery in November 2006, Steven Hayne, Mississippi's de facto medical examiner at the time, came to a different conclusion. Autopsy tests had turned up traces of a cocaine byproduct in Samiya's blood, and Hayne declared her death a homicide, caused by "cocaine toxicity.""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

(14,449 posts)Perhaps explaining that cocaine is not good for the baby and that at least while pregnant do not use it. Getting help to stop people from using cocaine would help too. Jail though? Seems harsh.

Did you know that morphine, codeine, and heroin are produced from the seeds of certain kinds of poppy flowers? Morphine and codeine are often used as medications for treating pain, and all threeknown as opiatescan be abused.
Poppy seeds are also used as a flavorful ingredient in many popular foods, including muffins and bagels. Although poppy seeds used in food are produced legally, they can contain high enough levels of the opioid to trigger a positive result on some types of drug urine tests.
So, you may wonder, if you ate a poppy seed bagel for breakfast, could results of a drug test come out positive for these opiates?
Once poppy seeds are eaten, the body develops detectable levels of opiates almost immediately. As a 2003 MythBusters episode notes, someone can test positive for opiates as soon as 2 hours after eating a poppy seed-loaded item. Other studies have shown that the levels remain elevated for up to 3 days.

There is a lot of chemistry that the State would have to prove. Needs to be an educated jury to relate to the science of then and now and the study and results of then and now.

We need help.
Unless we Unite and take to the streets immediately, this war against the 80% of the poorest citizens
will soon be won by the elite and their enablers.
IDK what it will take. Can we hold on to 2016 and work hard to elect a Bernie Sanders, Robert Reich or Elizabeth Warren?
That strategy is iffy at best.
Maybe we should all (non-elite) just die the way that they want. Either that or allow them to capitalize on us in their for-profit prisons.
OUR CHOICE.
what does this have to do with the OP? Also cocaine if anything is a "rich white man's drug"

(431 posts)These sorts of laws are actually part of a move to set precedents regarding the rights of a foetus. To the religious right, it does not matter who gets hurt in the process.Once the precedent exists that a pregnancy terminated by the actions of the woman is murder, it is easier to outlaw abortion.
The religious right have become totally insidious and are employing lawyers and strategists everywhere to chip away at the constitution and insert their religious beliefs into every facet of society. It is no longer enough to look at these sorts of rulings as individual arguments, they are part of a strategy.
I do not think it is every facet of society though. Just about 85% of us.
