Destroying a mountain range, polluting all the streams in West Virginia, murdering every child of the poor folk--as long as the additional profit exceeds the cost of the legal settlements, well, they have a duty to their shareholders to maximize profit. So pollution, destruction, and murder just become part of the business model. Any sort of morality would infringe on the freedom of the marketplace.
