(31,507 posts)It's hard to convince people that one loving, involved parent is better than two parents who don't like each other and fight all the time. None of my kids made President, but they are all responsible, self-supporting, tax-paying adults who are raising their children with the same values. Many of their friends from two parent households didn't do as well.

They formed a close relationship with each other and all three turned out great. They all have their master's degrees and responsible jobs.

(13,141 posts)what you said, & true for my kids as well. Very self-reliant. But as a single parent I did have an extended "family" or community of people who were supportive of my parenting choices. Not my blood-relations, particularly -- more just lifestyle peers, good friends, with like values. I'm sure it would have been too hard if I were really alone.
Kids thrive with a variety of adult role models. Insular two-parent households can be damaging. I'm a big believer in 'takes a village to raise a child.'
