(18,992 posts)....their shareholders first and foremost. That's right, a fiduciary responsibility to a few hedge funds and a bunch of giant institutional investors. Corporate officers are charged with making them and themselves rich at any cost, while at the same time building for themselves the best damn golden parachutes they possibly can in case something goes terribly wrong, or they just get tired of the bullshit. Yes, they will and do break the law when it's in their financial best interest to do so (seen it with me own eyes). Sometimes paying the fines and settlements is chump change compared to the financial gains from just doing whatever the hell they want. After all, if things get really hot, just go and buy some Congress Critters. In the vast, global, economic scheme of things, our elected officials are dirt cheap.
We the serfs? The environment? Some old guy in the developing world? They don't give a shit about any of that, but want you to think they do, so you'll have a good impression the next time you see their name on some product you're thinking about buying. Because, in the end, they just want your damn money so they can do all the shit I mentioned above.
....now put that to some nice music and pretty pictures. The reality kind of stinks. Maybe we should just stick to the corporate public affairs dream world.

(8,175 posts)Was that Sam Elliot? Sure sounded like him. Morgan Freeman is always a good choice too.
Wouldn't it be the Corporations + Ad Agencies brought to you by the Media? The Media is just a platform, not the manipulator.

(6,335 posts)Those filthy American Petroleum Inst ads with that skinny lady in black make me want to smash the TV.
Those ads advertising their war jets etc. All to keep the media from saying too much about them in fear they will pull the ads.
That was "nice".
