(22,651 posts)One would think a 'real militia' would want press coverage of their issue. Would embrace Americans most basic freedom rights, like 'Freedom of the Press'.

(5,610 posts)that LEO's "dispatched" non- gun bearing Occupy, non-violent protestors.
IMO, if Occupy protestors were "bearing arms", they would have been left alone.
What does that say about America and its cowardly (unless you are unarmed) LEO's?

(31,849 posts)did you catch the Sheriff's (?) statement that they have/are gathering intelligence on these guys and that they will be held to account?
Remembers me of the Two Bulls story told be the veteran cop to the anxious rookie in the 1990s movie Colors:
"Hey Pop ... let's run down this hill and F@#% a couple of those cows?"
"Nah Kid ... Let's walk down and F@#% them all!"
I realize that everyone is concerned about the weak appearance of the Federal Government; but waiting and arresting or, should they resist, putting them all down with force, will put an end to this misadventure and would go along way to dissuading all but the most loony of this guys. Arresting a few will only draw this out.
On a slightly different note ...
Has anyone seen what Bundy's net worth is? As another DUer speculated, once the fees and fines surpass his net-worth, Bundy can be evicted and hiss entire property can be seized. Perhaps, that's the delay?
2naSalit
(102,793 posts)with forfeiture as a result could be in the works, but you have to clear the area of the crazies, including his large brood of offspring, first.
And then you have that religious sect he claims as his family, that could get a little hinky at some point.
But I suspect that this will be dealt with much like OBL was, not exactly the same way but quietly.

(3,621 posts)The Militia Moochers are just wanna be Somali Warlords. Ain't it the truth.
And they will all be held to account. They are known and will be held to the law.
If they don't like the laws, then they can work to change them. But for holding weapons on law enforcement, they will answer. And Bundy will lose his whole ranch because he's a terrorist.

(17,984 posts)him. Just keep going. If he uses his body as a road block, go back and get a 4-wheel drive and go on the shoulder around him. Keep driving! This is insane. Although I think the news crews want to engage the Jackass as part of their story.
They need to subdue this madness pretty soon. Can you imagine what would happen if city dwellers used armed civilians to keep people out of their neighborhoods. LEO would be there pronto with paddy wagons loading people up, no questions asked.
2naSalit
(102,793 posts)they would be there with their newly issued war tanks and simply blow them all away.

(31,849 posts)and these "constitutional scholars" apparently believe that the AG can authorize drone strikes!
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Some of the drone programs are conducted by civilian contractors under direction of the CIA or DoD. There is nothing to prevent the civilian contractors from conducting operations under the direction of the FBI or BATF. All Holder has to do is pick up the phone.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)are u8nder the direction of the AG ... Also, neither organization can operate on US soil.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)in an oversight role of civilian contractors if drones are used. This I clearly stated in the post you were responding to.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)no one else.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Some local LE using them. It was discussed using drones at the GOP Convention in 2012. Decision was not to, but legality wasn't in question. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if DEA, ICE, and EPA were using them.
The DOD cant use them domestically (Posse Comitatus), but there is no legal prohibition of their use by other govt agencies.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Including automatic rifles, grenade launchers, and armored vehicles. There is no legal argument prohibiting them from also arming drones. Only restriction is FAA approval required to fly them. In the desert, over the Bundy Ranch, thats a certain rubber-stamp.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)speculation argued as fact ... the BATF and DHS has attached a protocol with respect to domestic drone usage; it uses a smaller, different model of drone (i.e., 55lb and not the Predator) and explicitly considered and excluded weaponization.
But yeah, the big bad government COULD use weaponized Predators ... but then, they COULD use tactical nuclear weaponry or a EMPs (also, talked about by these militia clowns).
Ned Flanders
(233 posts)I don't know about that area, but Nevada has a lot of Military Operating Areas, where they fly all kinds of interesting aircraft. Camping in some parts of the desert can include a short but daily airshow. But I digress.
It seems like anywhere there's a MOA, they could fly an armed drone. That opens up a lot of terrain to them in the west.
Ned Flanders
(233 posts)I recall Mayor Giuliani (I think it was him) boasting or joking about the NYPD having an armed drone. Anyone else remember that? May be just urban legend....

(22,651 posts)I'll have to google the news story. They crashed the drone in some big lake and haven't found it yet.

(463 posts)It wasn't that many years ago that when a town barricaded itself against an approaching army. That army would lay siege to that town. Nothing got in and nothing got out until surrender or death by starvation.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Let them run low on food and water, swelter in the heat, fight among themselves. Soon enough they'll lay down their weapons and come crawling out on their hands and knees. A whimpering meek surrender will send a message to the other moron militias.
KansDem
(28,498 posts)If past experience is any indication, won't they send out their womenfolk on their hands and knees first? Doing so might result in some workable propaganda for the militiamen.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)The other moron militias will only see the surrendering group as having inadequate command and control structure with faulty tactical operational strategies.

(5,610 posts)but these idiots are getting a lot of press, not being brutalized by cops (yet) and many other things that we didn't accomplish with #Occupy.
Maybe if we had legally armed (gun permits) Progressive protestors (with definite goals..ie. net neutrality, greatly increased minimum wage, wealth equality, legislating money out of politics, etc.) who kept their weapons holstered but refused to be brutalized (not by brandishing their weapons, IMO the greatly increased press coverage would prevent a lot of the police brutality), we could get much more accomplished than we did with the original #Occupy protests.
IDK, I see (on every channel) these tea baggers getting free publicity for their idiotic "cause" (keeping Koch-like assholes free from government regulation) and I wonder how we Progressives could get this exposure legally.
Polling shows that the majority of Americans are Progressive in their desires, hopefully IF we could get this kind of coverage legally without being beaten and arrested (effective dissuasion by TPTB) we may be able to get like-minded Americans to Unite and work
together to bring Democracy to America.

(50 posts)These Militia psychopaths want the shooting to start. They want to put their women and children in front to be shot by the "Gov'ment Jackbooted Thugs" then tell the world that this shows how evil the federal government is. Then they can start shooting back and claim they have the higher moral ground.
They want blood. They want anarchy and carnage. Nothing less will satisfy their lust for violence.

If these moron wannabes keep harassing citizens on public roads, the police will be forced to step in. Sooner or later Bundy will get sick of feeding and cleaning up after these assholes, or their financiers will leave them high and dry because they have no more use for them. And if they fire on someone, the authorities will have every right to go in and neutralize the threat to the public. If the provoke a siege, they will be outlasted.
The smart thing to do would be to pack up, leave and enjoy the adoration of their idiotic and toothless supporters.

(7,234 posts)Scott Olsen, 26, was among more than 1,000 demonstrators protesting the police clearing of an Occupy Oakland encampment outside City Hall when he was struck by the beanbag on Oct. 25, 2011. Widely viewed images of him falling in the street and being carried away while bloodied ignited outrage and sparked further protests.
The payout is the latest in a series of settlements by the city involving mass protests. It comes as Oakland police continue to grapple with how to balance the free-speech rights of activists with a desire to maintain order amid large, often unruly crowds.
At a news conference Friday not far from where he was injured at 14th Street and Broadway, Olsen said he never expected to return from service as a Marine in the Middle East, only to be injured by police in downtown Oakland.
"I guess I thought that I wasn't in Iraq anymore, you know, I'd be more or less safe," Olsen said. "I wasn't going to get shot. I wasn't going to be attacked. Oakland police proved me wrong in that, and it makes me feel less safe in general, especially around people who are supposed to be protecting you."
Olsen said he is still being treated for his head injury. "I didn't win part of my brain back that's dead," he said. "It's hard. It was a hard recovery process."

Im sure if the swat team showed up and put guns in this guys face he would surrender. Then arrest him. I could care less if bullets fly as long as the law isnt getting hurt.

(22,651 posts)Last many years it is the BLM blocking 'the press' from public land access & hating on cameras that just want to observe OUR Gov. at work.
CBS knows about all the Federal court cases, many still pending BLM vs our basic right for "freedom of the press".
Here is how the BLM 'blocks' one journalist, Laura Leigh who has spent a lifetime trying to document 'Our DOI/BLM 'management' of our public lands. CBS reporter in this video was also blocked access.
Last many years it has been the BLM blocking 'the press' from public land access & observation of our Gov.
Here are just a few clips of how journalists are blocked access of observation on our public lands in Nevada.
