. . . so far as it goes. The idea of conservatism and liberalism being in a kind of balance is a nice, neat, attractive idea. But what the talk does not address is how we arrive at such a balance, when the forces that purport to be 'conservative' are not, in fact, conservative at all, but have in reality degenerated into an irresponsible radicalism -- and that's the situation we are dealing with.
