Related: About this forumAlex Jones on Russia Today: 'UN a Nazi movement'. The true nature of RT revealed.
Another nail in the journalistic coffin of Kremlin-funded RT. "Regular RT guest" Alex Jones--what an effin joke. I actually feel pity for anybody that uses RT or FOX for their info, but I feel worse for the rest of us that have to be around those misguided folks.

DemocracyNow is great but not a network...I happily, when I watch "news" (propaganda) prefer RT to its rivals....oh those damned commies!
Alex Jones is deranged wherever he is.

(12,882 posts)NO "network" or "outlet is perfect. And I'm suspicious of RT's motives in ALL that they put up. But one thing they do carry is Thom Hartmann - not edited, to the best of my knowing. I'm sure those at RT figure Thom is as good as anyone at pointing out the hypocrisy this nations deals with. And the tea heads are probably excited at them having Alex on RT too! So what? In our house, we've got SEVERAL tuners with which to change the channels. Honest - it's THAT easy!

(31 posts)If the standard for declaring a news source "unworthy" is that Alex Jones is interviewed on it, then shall we also exclude ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and CBS? I mean, Alex has been seen on those channels as well, featured as a guest. Meanwhile, virtually everyday on DU we are linked to RT to watch Thom Hartman (The Big Picture), Max Keiser (Keiser Report) and Abby Martin (Breaking the Set)... yet I only read applause and accolades on DU about such posts. I would even say that RT seems to be, ironically, one of a few news sources that is actually breaking/reporting worthy news via the aforementioned news shows. I certainly don't see the U.S. media outlets doing as much. If RT really is Putin's mouthpiece then they seem to be very conflicted on how to denigrate *whoever* they intend to denigrate.
Perhaps DU should lose the double standard on RT.
The problem with Alex Jones is that there are some facts, lots of conspiracy and a lot of misguided conclusions. It's his nut-bag theories and conclusions that turn people off to the all-important facts that really should be made wider known.. and the facts are then collectively regarded as fiction because they were included in his stupid rants, even though they may not be.
Alex Jones is an enemy to the truth by injecting his paranoid world-view into everything.

(2,479 posts)Exclude most of our media--in fact, our media is just the ideological range (economically, most especially) that the Oligarchs want to allow. It's a fake left, and right, the left is right-of-center, and the right is ever pushing further toward Fascism.
The thing the rich, and their media realize is that if you're not pulling, if you aren't attacking, you'll soon be defending. While the right continues to run ever more radically horrible, right-wing people, the left rarely even runs an actual liberal. They practically won't run, as they know our media, well right of anything fair, will trash them so badly they might even have trouble getting elected in Vermont. And they know MOST people still think we've got some kind of glorious, unbiased free press.
Worse, it's represented (by itself) as rabidly liberal. Clinton was called a liberal, but was far, far from it. Obama is called a liberal, and likewise, is far from it. The Internet is the only place you'll ever learn this, or be exposed to the idea.
Liberals want jobs back in America, we want a living wage, we only want to get into wars when people attack us, we want our media to have a Fairness Doctrine (unlike "lefties" on television, who'll preach, NO, NO FAIRNESS), we don't want to kill people, and we don't want a school to prison pipeline, we don't want drug wars and would prefer a different way to handle that. We want full-employment, and a decent life, and we don't want anyone forcing people to get abortions, or to have children if that's the choice.
Most of all, we want media separated from the rest of the corporations, and corporate money out of politics, PACS destroyed, and the Oligarchs money limited strictly to smaller amounts. That's the real key to get where we want, where the government works for the "us" that means everyone.

You live in a Police State. Wake up.
They (the emperors) frequently abused their power arbitrarily to deprive their subjects of property or of life: their tyranny was extremely onerous to the few, but it did not reach the greater number; .. But it would seem that if despotism were to be established amongst the democratic nations of our days it might assume a different character; it would be more extensive and more mild, it would degrade men without tormenting them.
After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the government then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence: it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd.
Americans are so enamored of equality, they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom. ~Alexis de Tocqueville
