Robert Preston stared in the Broadway production of the Music Man. When a movie was proposed of this wonderful play, the author of the play, Meredith Wilson, demanded and received assurances that Robert Preston would star in the movie because of his incredible staring role in the play on Broadway.

This one section of the film..."You Got Trouble Right Here in River City" proves that the author was right...
This is a great song and he is incredible singing it. You can see that he knows it backward and forward and truly fits the part as no one else could have.....please, please enjoy this.

I just watched it again, and yes, Robert Preston was born to play this part, and be in this film for all to see years after he starred on Broadway. This is wonderful!

and.....THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS

I did not know any of that, but it sure is clear that Preston knew that part and executed it perfictly...In fact I don't think anyone could have been any better at it.

Got to see this movie when it debuted. Had the sound track album within a week - played and played and played it ad infinatum. (edit to add, I played along with the album using my tuba!) Poor neighbors! But what a great cast and film! Made me a lifelong fan of musicals.

Yep...We get this ALL the time in government...the best way to motivate a City Council to do what you want them to do is "scare the hell" out of them....I've seen us stampeded into doing some pretty foolish (I refrained from saying stupid) things over the years...but this is how it starts...always!
