(41,831 posts)Yes, Officer the GUN WENT OFF several times by mistake..and killed a few people .. the Gun accidentally went off and shot the owner in the head finally. That Damn gun needed maintenance badly, every time you put bullets in it, It would misfire and would kill a few people.

(5,417 posts)Nobody said there is a person holding the camera. Put the camera on a tripod, with a remote trigger, and the photographer is not in harms way. Or use a prop gun.
Brickbat
(19,339 posts)And always handle prop or toy guns as if they were real. Don't you?

(876 posts)You NEVER put your finger on the trigger unless and until you intend to shoot. She loaded and racked the weapon prior to pointing it. So she wanted the viewer to believe that it was a REAL LOADED weapon. She did not shoot PAST your hypothetical tripod held camera. All of the shoots fired were filmed from behind. She COULD have shown an example of gun safety, she chose not to do so.
Oh and for a someone with military training it's pretty amateur to close one eye, the wrong eye at that, and quite noticeably flinch when shooting.
Anyone with weapons experience would see this ad as the publicity stunt that it is. Just saying.

Of course, cognitive dissonance being part and parcel of being a right-wing nutjob, they don't see Republican women as women I guess.
A Republican woman running for office needs to be seen as just another "one of the boys". I'm surprised she didn't get her picture taken while in a pickup truck with a lift kit and a rebel flag while swigging from a bottle of Jack while pointing that pistol.

DES MOINES (AP) The leaders in Iowas Republican U.S. Senate primary played it safe during their final debate Thursday night.
State Sen. Joni Ernst refused to name a would-be presidential candidate she admired, one who will likely be campaigning in her state next year. And her chief rival, businessman Mark Jacobs, declined to critique Ernst, as his campaign has been more willing to do through mail and television advertising.
The candidates took few chances in their last opportunity to interact, despite the high stakes of Tuesdays vote. The winner goes on to face Democrat Bruce Braley in Iowas first campaign for an open Senate seat in 40 years and one of the more closely watched contests in the GOPs effort to gain the six seats it needs for the majority.
I was focused on substantive solutions, Jacobs said after the 90-minute televised debate.

If only she had learned gun safety from the womb, because we should be teaching all those kids who haven't learned to read yet to not blow their little cousins away. But guns are safer than knives and cars. Blah blah guns blah blah self defense blah blah civil rights!

So, as a result, as a state Senator she is still ignorant of the impact that shootings have on some of her constituents.

(11,085 posts)The cars could malfunction and cause actual accidents. Though Joni Ernst calls a mass shooting an accident, I suppose you could argue the guns used in mass shootings functioned just like the manufacturers and owners intended.

(23,973 posts)if RWNJ's want to characterize murder done by firearms as accidents, then the person carrying a firearm in public concealed or not needs to carry insurance against any 'accidents'.

(5,275 posts)I don't get it at all, I never will. Now I am a female - but no men I knew of in my family was a gun fanatic, quite the opposite.
Amazingly enough I am still here and healthy despite never holding or shooting a firearm.
We need to get a grip on this soon or more innocent citizens will be senselessly gunned down. Maybe me or maybe a second amendment fanatic.
They keep ramming the 2nd Amendment down our throats and yet they have it all wrong. It has to do with "a well regulated militia being necessary for the security of the state". They blow off the "well regulated" part and blow off the "militia" definition as a pre requisite. We had no standing army way, way back then, so a standing militia was a must.
So this relates to the current day not at all. We have a ridiculously large defense department, we no longer need a militia. This was never meant to guarantee a gun, one or more of todays firearms that the founders could never have imagined, to any half wit who wants them.
Our rights to be secure in our person trump the rights of everyone to arm up to the teeth. Mr. Martin, who my heart goes out to, had it exactly right.

(17,656 posts)She is pointing her pistol at the camera with her finger on the trigger!!
I suppose her reply to that criticism would be "well, the pistol was not loaded".
To which I would say, an unloaded pistol is worthless as a weapon.
She thinks she is tuff stuff in that black leather jacket, pointing a pistol that way, but I'll bet she has never been shot at before.
There's something about being shot at that changes one's opinion of just how effective a pistol can be.

(11,986 posts)...I think all the posts about the word "accident" are overblown.
I have a feeling she meant to say "unfortunate incident."
It's an easy kind of mis-speak.
I'd rather she was taken to task over her views rather than a word, I think making an issue out of what was probably a slip of the tongue is a distraction from real issues.

(3,963 posts)hello! I am not one to become involved in politics. I loathe it. all of it . However I am kind of mixed between gun control but not totally against having guns so long you are a responsible person and learn exactly how to act with a gun. I think that some types of bullets should be banned like hollow points. they are horrible And why would anyone need military weapons as arms? I mean come on that's really extreme, right? However, I think that a lot of people should research something's out. I mean information highway? I think it would benefit from learning about a certain phrase before using it to further certain causes.
Anyway the whole reason I choose to come here tonight is to share a very interesting article I found last night. I started out wondering what Molon labe means and how the Gun nuts as you call would really benefit educational wise research some adage that they believe is helping their cause but it really isn't. Hence the importance of researching stuff out especially today on the information highway. They or just about all of us would appear somewhat intelligent.
