(7,864 posts)automatically assume that the police are targeting them. Is there a reason for them to think so?
How would the guy in the first video feel if it turned out that the cops were keeping an eye an a suspected meth lab in the neighborhood - near where his kid played or he himself walked by every day?
Would the guy in the second video feel better if the heavily armored police vehicles were turned against gangbangers or OWS protestors? Because that's the usual reason for the military-style armament.

(8,127 posts)that's a pet peeve of mine.. the 'hitler took the guns!' meme...
in reality, Germany had super STRICT gun ownership rules imposed on them after WW1.. there was only one direction to go by the time hitler took power...
he extended licenses to 3 years instead of 1 and made them more accessible to EVERYONE except the jewish people...
the 'hitler took the guns!' notion is a complete myth.

(20 posts)I really have no opinion of this person, but I live in Abq. and we have had an extreme number of police officer shootings and brutality. I have also seen vehicles like this driving around and it is unsettling, resembling standing armies. There is a bit of tension concerning the APD recently.
At the same time, the ease at which people walk around with military grade assault rifles, like they are an accessory is just as disturbing.

(32,723 posts)These guys actually think it's not fair and that they should be able to bunker down and WIN in a battle with the cops.
Frankly, I want them to lose in that battle.

(32,723 posts)It's like they honestly believe they will step over the pile of dead cops and feds and be hailed as a hero by the general public.
What's comes after that? Bikini clad women throwing themselves at them?

(1,186 posts)Who the hell would let a freak like this just waltz around the house with an ASSault rifle if he is only renting a room?
Must be another gunner. I know that shit would not fly around my house.

(4,695 posts)There could be a little different reasoning with the APD. The New Mexico Group has several posts about brutality and murder toward Albuquerque citizens. I have not done any follow-up research on the Mayor's letter to the Justice Department.

(3,183 posts)APD has been involved in 36 police shootings since 2010, 26 of them deadly. I wouldn't trust them either.

(78 posts)After you go over this introduction are you sure you still want to conflate Police abuse in Albuquerque with some conspiracy nut who stalks police officers just doing their jobs with an assault rifle, shows up to the police headquarters armed with an AK-47 and body armor while hiding behind a crowd and admits online to being prescribed risperdal (medication used to treat schizophrenia)?
And now the introduction:

Maybe I misunderstood you but none of this has anything to do with the current events in Albuquerque. In fact police officers are supposed to go after heavily armed mentally ill guys like this and heavily armed felons like the Las Vegas cop killer. Had the DHS, FBI and other law enforcement done their jobs, Jared Miller (a felon) would have been in prison back in April and those 2 Vegas officers would be with their families tonight.
