Related: About this forumEric Cantor's Loss - FoxNews Admits It's A Win for Democrats Nationally Long Term
Brit Hume indicates it was immigration reform that was the key in this watershed vote, but also wonders too if Democrats crossed over to vote for Cantor's opponent, Dave Brat... as it was an open primary and Democrats would be able to influence the election.
It was also noted that turnout was extremely low but the fact that polls missesd this outcome brings poll accuracy into question. 'The Lord Did It' was one comment regarding the bad weather as one potential reason. Basically FoxNews was all over the place about this, but you can tell they were not ready for this and see it as a basic loss for the Presidency if immigration reform becomes a hands-off issue for Republicans going forward.
Apparently Cantor can have a write-in campaign, and could actually run as an independent... this remains to be seen, but they talked about all the options available to him.

(2,795 posts)Cantor could run as a write in. But the article I read said he can't run on another party ticket as an independent or other.

(13,297 posts)Would be hilarious if Anne Coulter and Laura Ingaraham were all celebratory about how it was a sign that their Tea Party side is winning, when it fact it turns out to be a sign of cunning voting by Democrats to oust their sitting majority leader.
With so little voting going on, me thinkst there may be something here... and Brit Hume mentioned it as well.

(16,399 posts)I admit, I know nothing about the guy, but if how he got picked is any indication, I don't think anyone expected Cantor to lose tonight or in November.

(16,399 posts)Our candidate didn't run in a primary. He simply volunteered and was told "ok".

Let them split the vote.
